Since it took on making Madden NFL games, Electronic Arts have had many highs but also plenty of lows with each installment of the franchise. The game has grown a lot over the years, but fans are always asking for a little bit more from the developer in terms of content and overall quality.

With Madden NFL 22 on the horizon, the first game in the series that will be releasing on the new generation of consoles immediately upon release, players are once again looking for EA to make some changes to the game that can help enhance the overall experience.

10 Put The Playoff Experience In Exhibition

The hardcore Madden fans may be focused on Franchise, Madden Ultimate Team, and Online modes. But there is something to be said about the game's exhibition mode, which allows players to experience a casual game that is extremely customizable. That is unless players are looking for a playoff feel. Players only have the option to play a regular exhibition game or a Super Bowl. It would be a great feature to allow players to simulate or play NFL playoff games, such as the Wild Card or a conference championship.

9 Add Old Teams To The Games

The NFL enjoys celebrating its history whenever it can, but it's strange that the league hasn't pushed for that same history to be implemented into the game. Sure, many football legends are part of the game as part of the Ultimate Team mode. However, players are only allowed to play the game with the 32 modern NFL franchises that are around today. EA should make it so players can suit up for classic teams of years past, such as the Dallas Texans or even a really old school team in the Canton Bulldogs.

8 Fix The Blocking By Linemen

While there is always criticism from the Madden fanbase about different elements of the game, one major issue that has consistently been an issue for fans is the offensive line mechanics.

In real football, the linemen are supposed to change the way they block depending on the play, but it has consistently been the case that the offensive linemen play each down the same way each time. Madden NFL 21's jump to next-gen saw some improvements with this, but it is still a crucial element of the game that needs fixing.

7 Force Franchises To Make Smarter Decisions

Franchise mode could be a lot better than it currently is, at least in the eyes of many Madden fans who have been playing the mode for years. There are plenty of ways to improve the experience, but one of the smaller things is to make the transaction wire a bit more realistic. Franchises that are not controlled by players can make some wacky decisions about who to sign and trade, both during and in-between seasons. While it could be an advantage for the player, it does hurt the overall illusion of this being a realistic simulation. Smarter AI can make a difference.

6 Make Conditions Around The Game More Believable

Presentation matters and according to Madden fans, EA has not done a good job giving players the ability to adjust the game environment nor making games feel realistic aesthetically, even with the nicer graphics. The sidelines tend to look a bit ridiculous with weirdly shaped individuals in football pads running the same two or three animations over and over again. The crowd has a similar tendency to act the same consistently. It would be interesting to see them get up and move around the stadium more to at least create some movement.

5 Create A Better Super Bowl Experience

It's beyond time to make the video game version of the Super Bowl better than it is. While the announcers try to set the scene with how big a deal the juggernaut match is in the pregame, the game itself never really feels like a Super Bowl. The lack of high-quality presentations and some of the overall Super Bowl aesthetics like the logo and patches leaving a lot to be desired make it feel like a glorified exhibition match rather than one of the most important games of the player character's life.

4 Expand On Face Of The Franchise

One of the more intriguing features implemented into the Madden games in recent years is its story mode, Face of the Franchise. The game has presented some great ideas to players over the years, but it has yet to figure out its true potential.

Its latest iteration added the ability to make a character and play at both the high school and collegiate levels. However, it could be even better than that, including allowing players to play full seasons on lower levels before jumping into what is essentially Franchise mode but with more story.

3 Present Player Scenarios In A Better Way

Players were introduced to the Franchise Mode's scenario engine a few games back and it was not very popular among fans. Many felt like it was just "boosts" disguised as important choices that may impact a player's career. Throwing in scenarios that players are going to have to think twice about can be a really cool feature if implemented correctly. Rather than focus on rewarding the player with stat perks, have it be that the choices affect how the season plays out. For example, how a player may handle a smaller workload or nursing an injury in order to get healthy.

2 Implement A Stronger System For Coaching

It's strange how offensive and defensive coordinators have not been a focus of the series in quite some time. Wouldn't it be great to have a team of three incredible coaches working on the same sideline? Besides that, Franchise Mode has a tendency to hire coaches that are not in any way involved in the league. It would be nicer to see random individuals get jobs as coordinators then, if they do well, raising them up to the head coaching level. At least it would make a little more sense than a randomly-generated person taking over a franchise with no experience.

1 Let Players Create Custom Leagues

The XFL mod in Madden NFL 20

One of the more interesting and fun features in NBA 2K is the ability to create teams from scratch and form an entire league around them. While there is a feature in Madden that will let a player relocate and rename a team in Franchise Mode, these locations and names are provided to the player. Customization is fun, so why not implement a way to make new football leagues? Or at least, give players the ability to reorganize the NFL itself with new divisions and conferences. EA and the NFL need to let players be more creative.
