M3GAN 2 is officially in the works at Blumhouse Productions and James Wan's Atomic Monster. Universal Pictures has scheduled the M3GAN sequel for a theatrical release in early 2025.

Blumhouse's M3GAN centered on a life-sized humanoid robot doll created by a roboticist named Gemma (Allison Williams). Designed to assist in caretaking duties and provide companionship to children, Gemma decides to test M3GAN (Model 3 Generative Android) on her recently-orphaned niece, Cady(Violet McGraw), who mourns her parents' death. Unfortunately, M3GAN's bond with Cady proves too powerful, and the doll becomes hostile toward anyone it believes threatens her relationship with Cady.

Of course, the killer doll's homicidal rampage is thwarted, but as with most horror films, the M3GAN ending suggests the android wasn't destroyed. Now, a sequel titled M3GAN 2.0 is officially scheduled to release in theaters on January 17, 2025, roughly two years after the original film debuted. While plot M3GAN 2.0 plot details were not revealed, Williams and McGraw will reprise their respective roles as Gemma and Cady. M3GAN Screenwriter Akela Cooper will return to pen the sequel, but a director for M3GAN 2.0 has not been announced. However, The Hollywood Reporter sources claim producers are hoping to make a deal to bring back Gerard Johnstone, who directed the first film.

Williams, who served as an executive producer on the first film, will be a producer on M3GAN 2.0. She serves in the role alongside Jason Blum and Wan. Michael Clear and Judson Scott are on board as executive producers for Atomic Monster, while Ryan Turek serves the same role for Blumhouse. Rounding out the team of executive producers are Mark Katchur, Divide/Conquer's Adam Hendricks, and Greg Gilreat.

Talk of a M3GAN sequel started before the original film was released in theaters in January 2023. After earning $30.4 million domestically on its opening weekend, M3GAN would gross a total of $91.9 million worldwide to date, effectively ensuring Blumhouse and Atomic Monster would want to cash in on a sequel.

Many people consider M3GAN the perfect movie to kick off the year due to its combination of horror and camp. With an increased budget, M3GAN 2.0 might up the gore and comedy to become a rare sequel that surpasses its predecessor.

M3GAN 2.0 is shcheduled to be released in theaters on January 17, 2025.
