A Star Wars cosplayer is truly living up to the Jedi code by lending his talents to those in need by taking on the role of Luke Skywalker. "Fluke Skywalker," as he's known, is a Cincinnati-based cosplayer who is available to be booked for events such as children's birthday parties, corporate events, and fundraisers. When you book Fluke for an event, a donation will be made to a charity benefiting children, such as the Ronald Mcdonald House.
Fluke Skywalker is doing a rendition of 'old Luke Skywalker,' as opposed to the character's younger self seen in the original trilogy. Portrayed by Star Wars icon Mark Hamill, this version of Luke was seen in the recent sequel trilogy, particularly in the second film The Last Jedi. While the portrayal of an old and weathered Luke Skywalker was controversial amongst the fanbase, many have come to recognize the fact that the character in his twilight years is an important part of the franchise history.
This isn't the first or only time that Star Wars cosplayers have lent their talents to give a little back. For instance, the famous 501st legion has been known to work events that raise money and awareness for charitable causes. The 501st is an international group of cosplayers who specialize in stormtrooper armor. They proudly refer to themselves as "Bad Guys Doing Good" and while they never charge for an appearance, they do encourage and accept donations made to charities in the legion's name. In 2016 alone, they raised over $889,000 USD in direct donations. Some members even made an appearance in the first season of The Mandalorian when the production team needed more stormtroopers for the large-scale season finale.
Hamill himself is known for his charity work with children, and has even responded to Fluke Skywalker on Twitter, saying, "He looks more like me than me." After all, Luke Skywalker remains a symbol of hope and freedom, and many fans will remember the character for his triumphant return at the end of The Last Jedi when he sacrificed himself to save the day.
