One of the first games Nintendo showed off in its E3 2019 Nintendo Direct was the upcoming Luigi's Mansion 3, releasing a lengthy new trailer that revealed a variety of gameplay features that will be in the game.

Whereas past Luigi's Mansion 3 trailers were light on details, this new trailer offered a deep dive into the gameplay. After setting up the premise that Luigi and friends wind up in a haunted hotel, Nintendo detailed some of the abilities that Luigi will have at his disposal to fend off the ghosts.

Using the new Poltergust G-00 in Luigi's Mansion 3, Luigi can slam ghosts, Suction Shot onto objects in the environment, use a Burst attack to fend off ghosts when he's surrounded, and more. Luigi will also be able to create a new version of himself called Gooigi that will have special abilities, such as being able to move through metal gates and walk through spike traps. Players will be able to switch between regular Luigi and Gooigi to solve puzzles, or they can hand a friend a Joy-Con controller for some couch co-op.

Speaking of co-op, Luigi's Mansion 3 brings back the fan-favorite ScareScraper mode that was first introduced in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon on the 3DS. Players will be able to play the ScareScraper locally or online, working together to solve a variety of puzzles and defeat ghosts.

As far as the ghosts go, Luigi's Mansion 3 will also be featuring some brand new ghosts. One example shown was a ghost with a shield that players have to yank off using the Suction Shot. We also got a glimpse at some boss fights, which included a battle against an armored ghost with a lance, as well as an encounter with a giant Boo.

One thing that was missing from the Luigi's Mansion 3 trailer at E3 2019 was a solid release date. For now, Nintendo Switch owners will just have to be patient as they wait for Nintendo to announce an official release date. On the bright side, we can confirm that Luigi's Mansion 3 is still aiming for a 2019 release, and hasn't been delayed like Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
