The original Luigi's Mansion will be making its long-awaited return this October for the Nintendo 3DS, just in time for Halloween. This remake was first announced earlier this year during a Nintendo Direct, much to the delight of fans of the lean, green, ghost-busting machine and his surprisingly spooky solo adventure.

First released in 2001 as one of the GameCube's launch titles, Luigi's Mansion put players in control of Luigi as he explored a haunted mansion filled to the brim with all manner of specters, ghouls, and poltergeists. With the assistance of the scientist E. Gadd and armed with a flashlight and the Poltergust 3000 (a vacuum cleaner), it was up to Luigi to clear the place of ghosts and rescue his missing brother. The title became the most successful launch title for the console and became something of a cult classic, eventually getting a 3DS sequel, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.

While the original game will be relatively untouched, it will contain new updates to make it better suited for portable play, as well as take advantages of the 3DS' features. For example, players can view a map of the mansion on the touch screen, which will make exploring its many halls and rooms a little easier and help prevent players from getting lost. There will also be a new Gallery Battle Mode where players can re-challenge the many boss ghosts they've defeated.

Although some fans are happy to be able to relive the adventure, there are still many that are confused as to why it wasn't remade for the more popular and current Switch (we even listed it as one of our top ten GameCube games to be re-released for the system).

Clearly, Nintendo's dedication to their dual-screened handheld proves that the thing's still got some life left in it, with the likes of a remake of Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and Persona Q 2 still coming as exclusives. Frankly, we're just happy to see Luigi alive and well after he suddenly died in a recent Super Smash Bros. Ultimate trailer.

Luigi's Mansion will release on the Nintendo 3DS family of systems on October 12th.
