Twitch streamer Ludwig has made history with his ongoing subathon. Ludwig began the event on March 14 with a simple rule: Any subscription adds 10 seconds to a countdown clock. However, Ludwig may not have been prepared for the situation he created. Now approaching a month of being continuously live on Twitch, Ludwig has broken the Twitch subscription record of 269,154 subs set by Ninja in April 2018.

Ludwig's subathon has been going on for 30 days straight, and now the streamer has over 271,500 subscribers on Twitch at the time of this writing. Ludwig announced today that the stream will end at 9:00 p.m. PST, but the streamer will be donating $5 to The Humane Society and St. Jude Children's Hospital for every subscription.

Although the subathon has made him the most subscribed streamer ever, Ludwig said he does not want to do another subathon. The Twitch streamer believes another subathon could not possibly be as successful as the first. Ludwig started the event expecting a 24-hour stream, but has ended up on stream for almost a month straight.

During the month, Ludwig has kept himself and his viewers entertained by playing video games, working out, hosting guests, and even cooking. The historic stream came close to ending a few times in the last month. Ludwig's countdown clock has stayed over 24 hours left for most of the stream, but managed to get down to four seconds left before the subathon was saved by a wave of subscriptions.

Ludwig's Twitch subscription record is a historic achievement that may not be broken for a long time. Ludwig will go down in history as a streamer who entertained viewers for an entire month straight, with over 270,000 subscribers supporting the subathon. Early into the subathon, Ludwig created a rule that anybody gifting over 100 subs would be banned, so it is hard to imagine what the record would be if he had not implemented that rule.

Not only did Ludwig break Ninja's seemingly unbreakable record, he also has become only the second person over 200,000 subscriptions. The achievement is even more impressive considering no other streamer has come within 70,000 subscriptions of the record since Ninja. Ludwig continues to gain more subscriptions, however at the end of the subathon, his subscription count may peak and could drop from one-month subs expiring. It will be interesting to see what the Twitch subscription record reaches by the end of the subathon today.
