Destruction AllStars was meant to be Lucid Games' big step into AAA game development. A PlayStation 5-exclusive vehicular combat game supported and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment is a dream come true for any game studio. Ultimately, Destruction AllStars' PlayStation Plus launch was strong, but reviews were particularly critical and its longevity suffered. Lucid Games appears to be building off that experience and success, however, and appears to be working on yet another AAA title for the PS5.
As first noticed by Twitter user Timur222, the LinkedIn profile for one Drew Williams-Rostron has shed some light on what could be Lucid Games' next project. Listed under Williams-Rostron's most recent job title, Technical Designer, the Lucid Games developer says that he's working on a "First-Party Flagship AAA IP for the PlayStation 5." With Lucid Games not currently having an announced project in development, this unannounced game in Williams-Rostron's profile could be the first official information about what's coming next.
There's a lot to unpack with regards to "First-Party Flagship AAA IP for PlayStation 5." Lucid Games is not a first-party studio, as it's privately owned and only works with Sony through a publishing partnership. However, this term likely implies Sony has lent one of its IPs to Lucid Games for its next game. That it's a "Flagship" title certainly makes it seem like something much bigger than Destruction AllStars. Joined with "AAA IP" also makes clear that this is an existing IP and not something new.
Lastly, the new game from Lucid Games is being made for the PlayStation 5. In context, this is obvious. Sony isn't lending a major IP to Lucid Games if it wasn't a platform exclusive. Also, Destruction AllStars is a PS5 exclusive for the time being, too. It's still interesting that despite Destruction AllStars' disappointing reviews, Sony has escalated its relationship with the company.
That leaves the question of what the game actually is. Past rumors have implied that Sony is working on a Twisted Metal reboot, coinciding with the production of a spin-off Twisted Metal television show. Lucid Games' name has also been associated with the project in these rumors. The rumors also line up with this "First-Party Flagship AAA IP for PlayStation 5," too. It's in line with Lucid's experience on Destruction AllStars, at the very least.
All fans of Destruction AllStars or Twisted Metal can do is wait. Whatever the project may be, its only been in development for so long. Williams-Rostron's LinkedIn says he's been working on the game since 2020. Any Lucid Games announcement will likely be a year or more away, but it's exciting nonetheless.
