The first season of Rings of Power has come to a conclusion and viewers are already making some guesses about the events of the next season. Those who are familiar with the lore are expecting Sauron to make some rings, movie fans have recognized one of the wizards, and everyone is hoping for a showdown in Mordor sooner rather than later.

There are some characters whose individual fates or ultimate destinies might seem obvious, but the writers of Rings of Power already have a reputation for misdirecting fans. There are plenty of characters and their stories to keep an eye on, with the newly unveiled Sauron being only one of many.

6 Nori, An Ancestor Of Bilbo

Nori goes to help the meteor man

"It was often said, in other families, that long ago one of the Took ancestors must have taken a fairy wife. That was, of course, absurd..." or so says a throw-away line from The Hobbit that plants the seed of adventure in the Baggins' family tree. A fairy might have been absurd, but a Harfoot that trekked east with a mysterious wizard might have changed the destiny of her whole clan.

It seems likely with her attitude that Nori might be a Took, the line of explorers and adventurers that helped found the Shire. Bilbo's mother Belladonna was a took and Pippin is another example. However, the name Brandyfoot is a reference to Merry's family, the Brandybucks.

5 Disa, Becomes Queen

Princess-Disa-1

There was some foreshadowing to this the last time viewers saw the dwarf princess and her husband. Included with the scene was a clarification that it takes more than an old man's hissy fit to keep Durin IV and his wife from the throne of Khazad-dum.

With the rise of Durin IV will come the increase in mithril production from Moria, which will make this city an even more important center of trade, commerce, and art than it was before. All of this has a downside, but for the sake of the lore and storyline, the dwarves have some prosperity to enjoy first.

4 Adar, Enslaved By Sauron

Adar (1)

It might have seemed that things were looking up for the former elf, but now that Sauron is back it's only going downhill for him from here. Anyone familiar with Sauron knows that he's as creative as he is cruel, and the fate he has planned for Adar probably isn't a merciful one. It's going to be something worse than death if Adar really did try to kill him.

Adar has already been altered by Morgoth's dark magic, but the exact nature of his present existence and why it would have made him believe that he could kill Sauron remains a stubborn mystery. The Dark Lord had all kinds of servants, including mages, wizards, and other slaves in addition to the Ringwraiths and orcs, so there's no telling how awful this can get.

3 Elrond, Meets Celebrian

Elrond sits on a grassy field

This isn't the only family issue that needs to be resolved in season two, but it seems to be related to all of the others so it's a decent place to start. Celebrian isn't just Elrond's wife, she's Galadriel's daughter and Arwen's mother, making her essential to the story even if it's just someone talking about her.

The timeline in Rings of Power has been vague on this point, but without some kind of resolution as to her whereabouts, her absence is getting more difficult to explain. The same could be said for her father Celeborn, who has to be around here somewhere.

2 Elendil, Opposes The Emperor

The season finale included a moment when Elendil's daughter looked into a Palantir. In Tolkien's lore, the Palantiri were magical but fairly mundane objects the noble families of Numenor used for communication. Viewers already know what she sees, because Miriel also showed Galadriel, so despite what the old king insists the future can't be changed.

The second season might be too soon for the tidal wave to swallow the continent. The politics have to be set in motion to turn against the Valar and the Elves, and next is the adaptation of the Cult of Melkor, which Sauron brings to the island personally. Elendil will oppose the Emperor and his advisor openly but secretly start to plan an evacuation.

1 Gil-galad, Seduced By Annatar

Gil-galad Rings of Power

Three rings for the Elf lords, as the poem goes, and contrary to Tolkien's original story the Rings of Power has them appear first. That means the seven rings for the dwarves and the nine rings of men have yet to be crafted. The timing would be ideal for Sauron to appear to the Elven leaders, perhaps in another form, and trick them into helping craft the rings of power.

In the Tolkien stories, he appeared as a Maia called Annatar, and claimed to be a personal envoy of the Valar. Given the power dynamics of the show so far, Gil-galad seems to be the weak link and Sauron knows he can go over Galadriel's head. Not only is he the aloof and petty elf that everyone hates, but it's also worth remembering that he lost the staring contest Galadriel had with him in the season premiere.
