Throughout season one of the Rings of Power, audiences were introduced to many amazing characters, some who have destines stretched across the next thousand years of idle Earth, well into The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings, and others whose part in the history of their world was brief but still significant.

With the closing of the Amazon series, several of these characters' stories ended on cliffhangers, and left their fans wondering what lies in store for them in season 2. So, here are 10 character predictions for the future of the show:

Arondir and Bronwyn

rings of power arondir bronwyn

It is feared that at some point in the next few series of the Rings of Power, one or both of these beloved characters may die. Bronwyn, who quickly became a hero among her people due to her bravery and tenacity, is human, and subsequently cannot survive past old age, if she isn’t killed in battle or ambush first. And although Arondir is an immortal elf, he has many enemies and many hardships ahead, when they realize that the Halbrand, the king of the Southlands they have professed to follow, was Sauron all along. There are only 2 known successful pairings of elves and humans throughout Middle Earth history, being Beren and Luthien, and thousands of years later Aragorn and Arwen, which means that there is likely to be a tragedy in store for these star-crossed lovers.

Miriel

Miriel is another character who many feel may die in the seasons ahead. With the sudden passing of her father in the last episode, Mirirel is now queen of Numenor, and has already proven herself to be a brave warrior and a just ruler. She has lead both her own people to triumph, and the people of the Southlands to the safety of Pelargir, which will later become an important kingdom. But her visions in the Palantir of the flood that destroys Numenor may be a vision of what the next series holds in store for her.

Elendil

Elendil ended the season angry at the world, angry at Middle Earth, and most of all angry at Galadriel, who took him there in the first place. He blames her for the loss of his son, and never wants to see those cursed lands again. Unfortunately for him, Middle Earth lore shows that this won’t be the case, because he later becomes the first king of Gondor. This suggests that something colossal will happen to bring Elendil, and possibly Miriel too, back to Middle Earth despite the growing crisis in their own homeland, with the death of the king.

Isildur

Isildur rings of power

Here is another character who is known to change the fate of Middle Earth in a thousand years' time, so is clearly not dead as many of his friends and family currently believe. At the end of the 7th episode of the series, Elendil released Isildur's very distraught horse back into the wild, believing that he had seen too much of war and would be better off free. The horse is seen racing away, back in the direction of Mordor, which suggests that he is on his way to find Isildur, and will bring him, possibly wounded, back to his people, where he will travel to Pelargir and eventually be reunited with his father.

Poppy and the Harfoots

lotr rings of power harfoots

The harfoots were a big part of the stranger’s, (who is now confirmed to be Gandalf’s) journey, and the end of the show saw them heading off towards their next settlement. With their leader Sadoc gone, it looks as though Poppy, who has a great sense of direction thanks to her walking song, will become the next trail master. But whether the story of these ancestors of the hobbits is over, or whether they will feature in season 2, perhaps going on to find the Shire and finally settle in one place, is yet to be revealed.

Nori and the Stranger

Gandalf and Nori go to Rhun

Nori and the Stranger are known as the end of the final episode to be heading off to the mysterious eastern lands of Rhun. But what awaits the heroes in this mystical place? There have been many suggestions and hints of the wizard going there to remember his past, which suggests that he may encounter some of the other wizards there, perhaps Saruman or the blue wizards. And he will undoubtedly discover some secrets there that will help him learn to control his power. So far, Nori has been his moral compass, and has helped to steer him towards the light, even when the 3 sorcerers mistook him for Sauron, so it is clear that she will stay glued to his side until he has found his way back to who he is at the heart.

Galadriel and Elrond

With the creation of the 3 elven rings, the start of a much larger adventure into the other 17 rings of power, it is clear that Galadriel and Elronds pathways are now inextricably linked. They both have their own fortunes and mysteries to explore, such as Galadriel possibly being reunited with her husband, who she believes died in the war, and Elrond’s involvement with the dwarves of Khazad-Dum, but after the terrible betrayal that Galadriel has just experienced, it’s unlikely that she will want to stray too far from Elrond. She will need her friends close in order to weather the coming storm.

Halbrand

Halbrand is Sauron

With Halbrand’s devastating revelation that he is Sauron, there are several things that book readers can now expect to be coming for his character. From the fall of Numenor being the first time that Sauron’s physical form dies, to the Battle of the Last Alliance when Isildur cuts the one ring from his finger, there is a long road ahead before his eventual defeat by Frodo, Sam and Gollum. But it is thought that during the next season, Sauron will also travel to Rhun, and the show will explore the concept of whether or not he does actually want to heal the world.
