Amethyst Shards are one of the lesser-known currencies in Lost Ark, and many players don't even keep track of how many they currently have, or where to spend them. What can players even buy with these mysterious purple crystals?

Though there aren't as many uses for Amethyst Shards as other forms of currency, players may still want to take a moment to learn how to get their hands on them. Let's take a look at where exactly adventurers can spend Amethyst Shards in Lost Ark, how to get them, and what's worth buying with them.

Where Do Players Spend Their Amethyst Shards?

Lost Ark - Mysterious Man Amethyst Shard NPC Merchant

Just like any of the major Merchant NPCs in Lost Ark, there's a version of the Amethyst Shard Merchant in every major city with a Portal Stone. This includes places like Luterra Castle, Stern, and even Punika. To find the merchant in each city, simply search for them in the search bar at the top right of the map. This will highlight exactly where this merchant is. They are always denoted by the name Mysterious Man, and they'll always have the [Amethyst Shard Exchange] text after their name.

The Mysterious Man shares the same type of icon as the Rift Piece Exchange, Abyss Trade, and Gold Shop NPCs: a little silver chest surrounded by a silver circle. Hover over any of these with the mouse to see exactly which NPC is which.

How To Get More Amethyst Shards

Lost Ark - Example Of Earning Amethyst Shard From An In-Game Achievement

Out of all Lost Ark's various different Currencies such as Silver, Gold, Blue Crystals, Royal Crystals, and more, the Amethyst Shards are one of the most difficult to grind. Unlike almost everything else in this MMORPG, there are a limited amount of them to farm, and the methods of doing so usually take quite a while.

The main way players can get Amethyst Shards is by searching through their Acheivements to see which ones have Shard rewards. A few of these are hidden Achievements, such as the "People Person" Achievement, which rewards 1000 Shards for getting a whopping 50 different names on a single friend list at one time.

Other Achievements That Give Amethyst Shards

  • First Step, Lights Call: Finish the Prologue without Skipping (500 Shards)
  • Universal Troubleshooter: Get a character to Combat Level 50 for the first time in a Roster (500 Shards)
  • We're All Buddies!: Join a Guild (500 Shards)
  • First Step: Enter the Proving Grounds (500 Shards)
  • Beginner's Luck: Win in Provind Grounds (2000 Shards)

Aside from these sparse Achievement Shard rewards, the only other way to obtain Amethyst Shards is through the Amazon/Twitch Prime Gaming packs that have been releasing every month or so. It's a bit of a shame, as this takes away from the free-to-play side of Lost Ark.

What Is Worth Buying In The Amethyst Shard Exchange Shop?

Lost Ark - Example Of What The Amethyst Shard Shop Looks Like

Because Amethyst Shards are such a limited resource in the current version of NA/EU Lost Ark, are they even worth using at the moment? In all honesty, not really. The only two rewards that most players agree are worth it are the Notos Orka Ship Skin and the Gold Combat Wolf Mount.

The Orka Ship Skin is actually obtainable for those who have already kept up with the Shards given through Twitch Prime previously. Meanwhile, the Gold Combat Wolf Mount is a far-reaching purchase due to its 22k Amethyst Shard Price. Aside from those two things, it's completely up to the individual if any of the other products are worth buying.

It is worth mentioning that the Rapport Chests are unabashedly not worth the price, considering all the other ways players can obtain them through other means. Blue Crystals, Providence Stones, and more all allow players to obtain Rapport Chests, so don't waste Amethyst Shards on these.

Lost Ark was released on December 4th, 2019, and is available for PC.
