The release date for the upcoming The Lord of the Rings mobile game has been revealed, and it's coming sooner than players expected. The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-Earth will be a turn-based strategy RPG game based on J.R.R. Tolkien's book series.

First announced in July 2022, The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-Earth will give players the power to use the new Ring of Power for good or evil. They can build their own Fellowship featuring elves, dwarves, hobbits, and more, including LOTR characters Frodo Baggins and Eowyn, to prepare for PvP and PvE battles.

After almost a year, Heroes of Middle-Earth director Nick Reinhart announced that the game will come out on May 10, 2023 via the Google Play and Apple App stores. In a blog, Reinhart said the dev team will be releasing regular updates, new content, and plans as the release date inches closer. He also expressed excitement on behalf of the team and thanked the gamers who waited patiently and supported them during the development process.

On social media, many players seemed excited to play Heroes of Middle-Earth in May, with some saying they could barely wait a month for it. One asked the official Twitter account if the game will be available on the PC, but it replied that it won't be at this time. But PC players can experience the Lord of the Rings universe via the upcoming Gollum game.

The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-Earth has the potential to reach the same heights as the most popular mobile games. However, it's also understandable if some players might be worried about bad mobile game trends, like microtransactions and invasive features to keep players hooked. The former was an issue that many Diablo Immortal players have experienced since it came out last year, claiming that the pay-to-win scheme was predatory.

While EA hasn't detailed the Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-Earth microtransactions, many players might already be expecting them since the company already has a reputation of having in-game monetization for exclusive cosmetics and characters in its other titles. Of course, it might still be too early to say whether players would be turned off from playing the mobile game because of this feature. Fortunately, they only need to wait a month to experience it for themselves.

The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-Earth will launch on May 10, 2023 for Android and iOS.
