The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has previously shown brief snippets of gameplay as well as cinematic moments. Non-playable characters such as Gandalf are set to appear in some capacity, but the prominent feature of the game seems to be its choice-based mechanics that alter actions and craft Gollum's narrative.

The Game Awards announced that The Lord of the Rings: Gollum would make an appearance, setting the stage for today's awards show to include something more from Daedalic Entertainment and Nacon. Today, the game has been shown once more with another cinematic trailer at The Game Awards.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum's appearance at The Game Awards has shown a new cinematic trailer that centers on the game's conflicted protagonist. Gollum is seen stealthily attacking an Orc before he contends with his own corrupted dual personality about whether or not to attack an oncoming group of Orcs who hear the commotion. Gollum then pushes a lever that drops a cauldron of suspended lava on them, giving into his more violent and vengeful psyche.

This cinematic trailer does not reveal new information, though it does suggest some of the choice-based features that may determine the player's actions in The Lord of the Rings: Gollum. Players may expect to see actions similar to these throughout the game as they stealthily advance past Orc hordes or, if players so choose, it seems as though choices will determine how hostile Gollum can be. This suggests that players can move more passively as the timid Smeagol, or inflict harm and anger as the hateful Gollum.

The game is also seemingly given a new subtitle that addresses it asThe Untold Story, signifying it further as a narrative set in Middle-earth that fans of Tolkien's legendarium may not be aware of for the character. Indeed, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum original narrative is confirmed to follow events players and fans have not seen before, which is sure to shed light upon Gollum's treacherous journey through the depths of Mordor.

There has not been given a confirmed release date apart from The Lord of the Rings: Gollum's delayed release window announcement. But with each new trailer and batch of information fans may become more excited to see what the game has in store when it eventually releases next year.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is currently slated to release in 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
