'Lollipop Chainsaw' Trailer Delivers Sex Appeal and Carnage

Lollipop Chainsaw Trailer

If you’ve yet to hear about Lollipop Chainsaw then you aren’t alone, but we guarantee that after seeing this new trailer for the game you certainly won’t forget it. From the mind of Suda 51, who most recently delivered the very weird Shadows of the Damned, Lollipop Chainsaw can best be described as a combination between Dead Rising and No More Heroes.

From what we know of the game so far, Lollipop Chainsaw appears to be more of a hack and slash title than the traditionally slower paced combat gamers experienced with Grasshopper Manufacture’s previous efforts. But don’t be fooled by the gameplay’s apparent similarities to other hack and slash titles, this is a unique game, one that can’t be sold by just one trailer.

Speaking of the trailer, which features an awesome Grindhouse narration and style, it showcases many of main character Juliet’s chainsaw moves and her proclivity for violence. Obviously, with a title like Lollipop Chainsaw, this trailer isn’t going to be for the faint of heart, so view at your own discretion.

Joining the fold for this trailer is Morikawa, a zombie hunter who serves as Juliet’s guide throughout this horrific experience. How Morikawa figures into the game’s mechanics, whether he will be a source for power-ups or abilities, we cannot say, but he does bare that sage-like design.

Lollipop Chainsaw absolutely looks like the perfect combination of Suda 51’s design sensibilities and a grindhouse-style zombie film. With a high school (that conveniently pays homage to George Romero) overrun by zombies it’s up to Juliet to use not just her chainsaw, but her gymnastic talents to get to safety.

This is one of those rare games, one that typically comes to us from Suda, that gamers aren’t going to want to overlook.

What do you think of Lollipop Chainsaw? How does it stack up compared to Suda 51 and Grasshopper Manufacture’s previous developmental efforts?

Lollipop Chainsaw is slated for a 2012 release on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
