Initially launching in 2012, hack-and-slash zombie game Lollipop Chainsaw saw mostly positive reviews upon its release. While some critics saw Lollipop Chainsaw as more of a mixed bag, that didn't stop the stylish action experience from getting a cult following. Following Juliet Starling, a cheerleader who finds herself in the middle of a zombie outbreak at her high school, the game was praised for its charm, wackiness, and originality that made it so popular with fans.

Outside of its cult following, Lollipop Chainsaw has had some influence in mainstream media. The Suicide Squad Director James Gunn revealed that Harley Quinn's breakout scene in the movie was born from his work on Lollipop Chainsaw with Suda51. Now, as Lollipop Chainsaw approaches its tenth anniversary, it seems that fans will finally see some new content for the cult classic, as it has been recently announced that a remake of the title is in the works.

After it was teased last month that Lollipop Chainsaw would be making some form of comeback, fans immediately began speculating on what could be coming next. Former CEO of Kadokawa Games, the company that published Lollipop Chainsaw in Japan, stated that the game was "back," with a new developer called Dragami Games. Since that tease, it has been confirmed that Dragami Games' project is a Lollipop Chainsaw remake to celebrate its 10th anniversary. From images released by the developer, it is clear that the Lollipop Chainsaw remake will have updated visual elements, though, it doesn't seem as if there will be a complete graphical overhaul of the game.

There isn't much known on what will change in the Lollipop Chainsaw remake from the original 2012 version. Alongside the graphical updates, one other major feature has been confirmed so far and that is a change of music from the original title. Like Sonic Origins changing the Sonic 3 soundtrack, the music from 2012's Lollipop Chainsaw will be swapped out for new tracks. Unlike Sonic, though, the changes to Lollipop Chainsaw come from the first game having a lot of licensed music that Dragami Games couldn't get a hold of again.

Lollipop Chainsaw's remake is set to release some time in 2023, but a solid date has not yet been given for its launch. As well, it isn't currently known on which consoles Lollipop Chainsaw will be available, but it is likely fans can expect it on new hardware with a possibility of it launching on PS4 and Xbox One as well. In any case, the remake marks both a chance for old fans to see what they missed in Lollipop Chainsaw, and to give new players a look at the stylish title.

Lollipop Chainsaw will launch in 2023.
