Loki season 2 has taken a huge step forward by selecting Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead to serve as directors.

Marvel Studios' hit series, Loki, received glowing praise and reviews following its release, even bringing in a record number of viewers that granted the show the title as the “most watched MCU series yet.” In fact, Loki also happens to be the first show in the Marvel Studios series lineup to have been guaranteed a second season, so much so that Marvel Studios confirmed Loki season 2 during the end credits of the season one finale. All the other shows that Marvel Studios premiered only ended up running as a limited series. With all of that being said, Loki's transition to season 2 should be a smooth one given it’s success rate, but one that comes with an insurmountable amount of pressure.

Luckily, Deadline confirms that Benson and Moorhead have been chosen to co-direct the majority of the episodes for season 2 of Loki. Benson and Moorhead are known as some of the most highly regarded directors when it comes to tackling major hit series. The two got their TV start in classic series such as The Twilight Zone and Netflix's Archive 81. From there, they caught the attention of Marvel Studios, who just from witnessing their earlier work, asked them to direct a couple of episodes of Moon Knight.

Moon Knight stars Oscar Isaac and debuts on March 30th. Marvel Studios was so pleased and excited by the directing duo’s work on Moon Knight, that they desperately tried to find them another project they could be a part of. Loki season 2 just so happened to be the next one up. Not much has been revealed when it comes to the plot of the second season.

Yet, fans can expect actor Tom Hiddleston to, of course, be returning to his role as the Prince of Asgard. Hiddleston, alongside Michael Waldron, will be teaming up as executive producers. Waldron wrote the very first season of Loki, and given that not just one but two new creative brains will be in the mix means fans can expect some changes. With Marvel Studios' confidence in both Moorhead and Benson, it should also leave fans rest assured that the series' new direction is in safe hands.

The two most definitely have a lot of big expectations to meet when it comes to the loyal and enthusiastic fan base of Loki. However, their involvement seems to be a step in the right direction towards the series' evolution. It’s possible that season 2 of Loki may be released in late 2022. Yet, it’s more likely that Disney Plus will air it sometime in 2023.
