It's official, there will be a second season of the latest Marvel Disney Plus series, LokiThe season one finale premiered today on Disney Plus and confirmed the news via a post-credits insert that reads, "Loki will return in season 2." There are no plot details at the moment regarding the second season, but the season 1 finale leads directly into director Sam Raimi's upcoming film Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, which will premiere in theatres on March 25, 2022.

Loki is the third Marvel Disney Plus original series, the first two being WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which just earned Marvel Studios a combined 28 Emmy nominations. While both series were popular and acclaimed for different reasons, they are both confirmed to be limited series and will lead into future MCU projects. For instance, WandaVision's titular Wanda Maximoff is confirmed to be appearing in the next Doctor Strange film, while The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will essentially act as a bridge between the two Captain Americas since Anthony Mackie's character Sam Wilson will be returning for his own Captain America movie.

Marvel Studios' original Disney Plus shows have been a fascinating and risky experiment that seems to have paid off for both the studio and the streaming giant. While opinions on these shows have been varied, each series has absolutely dominated the discourse online, and with WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier earning a record 28 Emmy nominations, these original series show no sign of slowing down.

Along with Marvel Studio's huge roster of upcoming feature films, future Marvel Disney Plus shows include the animated speculative series What If…, which premieres on August 11th, 2021. Also due in 2021 is Hawkeye, which features Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop and Jeremy Renner reprising his role as Clint Barton/Hawkeye. The new series will also feature an appearance from Florence Pugh's character Yelena Belova from the hit movie Black Widow, which is currently playing in theatres and on Disney Plus with Premiere Access now. Ms. Marvel, starring Iman Vellani as Pakistani-American superhero Kamala Khan, will also premiere sometime in late 2021.

Other shows that are currently in development and eyeing a 2022 release date include Moon Knight, starring Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke, as well as She-Hulk, which stars Tatiana Maslany and Mark Ruffalo, and Secret Invasion, starring Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Olivia Colman, and Emilia Clarke. Also in the works are two series that will continue the Iron Man legacy: Armor Wars, which will see Don Cheadle return as War Machine, and Ironheart, which is set to start filming in April of 2022. There's also the highly-anticipated untitled Wakanda series being developed by Black Panther director Ryan Coogler.

You can now add Loki season 2 to that impressive slate of upcoming original series. Hopefully, it's not the only show that gets a second season.

You can watch every episode of Loki season 1 streaming exclusively on Disney Plus.
