Sophia Di Martino, the actress who plays Sylvie in the Disney Plus series Loki, recently elaborated on the surprising link between the show's season finale and Mr. and Mrs. Smith from 2005. On the surface, it may be hard to pinpoint exactly how the two are similar, but after Di Martino's explanation, the comparison makes a whole lot more sense.

One of the most memorable scenes in the Loki finale was the fight sequence between Tom Hiddleston's Loki and Di Martino's Sylvie. Upon meeting Jonathan Majors' He Who Remains, the two were given the opportunity to serve as the new keepers of the multiverse, a job which would entail keeping tabs on his many variants. Loki and Sylvie were unable to agree on whether or not they could trust the man, and their argument led to an epic duel that was jam-packed with action.

According to Di Martino, who spoke to Vanity Fair, such a fight sequence was largely inspired by the one in Mr. and Mrs. Smith, where Angelina Jolie's Jane Smith and Brad Pitt's John Smith were pitted against each other in a battle of the sexes that resulted in the total destruction of their cookie-cutter suburban home. It's clear to see why the writers behind the Loki finale would want to draw from a scene like that. Not only did it echo the situation between Loki and Sylvie (in that they both felt like they were obligated to fight despite caring deeply for each other), but the fight sequence itself was also larger than life, making it all the more interesting to watch.

Although their exchange of fists did not conclude with a make-out session in the rubble as it did in Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Loki and Sylvie did end up sharing a kiss, which was symbolic of their complicated relationship. Of course, their story is definitely far from over. As the rest of the finale unfolded, we learned from Mobius that the God of Mischief and Sylvie failed their mission and that the timeline has been thrust into chaos. With the threat of He Who Remains looming over the multiverse, it's only a matter of time before Loki and Sylvie will have to join forces again to help the TVA put the timeline back in order.

Jolie will be making her MCU debut later this year in Eternals, but fans now know that she already has a connection to Marvel outside of that film. Perhaps fans will get to see Jolie's Thena use those Mr. and Mrs. Smith moves on one of the villainous Deviants.

Loki is now streaming on Disney Plus.
