Considering Loki's popularity in the MCU, his solo show was one of the most anticipated TV series of 2021. Plenty of fans theorized about what the show would entail. Now that the first episode of Loki has aired, the theories have changed, but remain just as rich and intriguing.

The first episode posed a lot of questions, but so far offered few answers. It's understandable that fans aren't willing to just let it go. Theories range from somewhat plausible to less than probable, but all of them are worth considering if one enjoys the show.

10 Loki Will End Up Fighting Himself

Loki as he appears in the Marvel comics

The first episode's finale revealed a big shocker that was difficult to anticipate. It turned out that the person responsible for killing TVA's agents is none other than Loki himself – or more specifically, a variant of him.

If Loki does indeed work with Mobius M. Mobius on solving the murders and catching the culprit, he could easily fight himself in the end. Perhaps he'd even kill another version of himself. Considering both variants of Loki likely have the same set of powers, it would be a very even match.

9 Loki Will Side With Another Loki

A similar theory takes a different approach and states that Loki won't fight another variant of himself. Instead, they will join forces and either take on the TVA as a duo, or try and fix the mess Loki has made of the timeline.

Loki has demonstrated that he's able to work with others if he wants to. However, it remains to be seen whether he would be able to get along with himself.

8 Loki Will Renew The Original Timeline

It's hard to imagine how this might happen, but one theory suggests that Loki will return right back where he started. That means he would go back to the Stark Tower in 2012 and allow Thor to take him to Asgard.

What makes this theory somewhat doubtful is the fact that Loki now knows how his future originally unfolded. And considering his reaction to Frigga's death, it doesn't look like he would be willing to take the steps that killed her.

7 Loki Will Become A Hero

Loki has had his run-ins with heroism before; for example, when he helped Thor fight Hela and then Thanos. But he's always been more of an antihero, not a genuine hero.

This theory suggests Loki could change that and join the sides of heroes, possibly for good. After seeing the consequences of his actions in the form of his mother's death, Loki might consider changing his lifestyle.

6 It's All A Nightmare

Nightmare is a Doctor Strange villain

One intriguing theory posits the notion that all of the TVA and everything Loki will face is the work of the Nightmare. Nightmare is an iconic Doctor Strange villain who lives in a dimension of his own, just like Dormammu. What makes this theory plausible is a potential hint that Loki and Mobius make in the first episode.

Loki says it's a nightmare when he walks through TVA alongside Mobius. Mobius replies that no, the nightmare is another department, and Loki can incinerate it if he wants to. It could be a random funny remark, but it could also hint at what will come later on the show.

5 Loki Will Meet/See Other MCU Superheroes

A realistic theory, considering the plot of the first episode, suggests Loki will either meet or at least see the recordings of more MCU superheroes. In the first episode, the Avengers briefly made an appearance during the flashback scene of Loki's disappearance.

Loki then sees the portrait of the Avengers from the battle of New York. Considering the large number of heroes in the MCU, it's plausible Loki could meet more of them. Initial theories suggest he could come across the likes of Scarlet Witch or even Doctor Strange.

4 Loki Will Escape Death...Again

Thanos kills Loki

Loki is the one character who managed to escape death over and over again, until it looked like his end had come at the hands of Thanos. The Mad Titan stated that there would be no more resurrections, but if anybody's able to pull it off, it's Loki.

Loki watched the recording of his death at the hands of Thanos in the first episode of the series. That could give him enough time to come up with a plan for how to stop it and save himself from the future. With the element of surprise, Loki could outsmart Thanos and rewrite his destiny.

3 Loki Will Figure Out How To Use The Time Stones

Loki looks through a drawer full of Infinity Stones

When Loki appeared in the TVA, he was shocked. This only increased once he realized the TVA had the Infinity Stones lying around and used them like paperweights, even though they have been destroyed in the main timeline.

Neither the Tesseract nor the Infinity Stones work at TVA, but one theory suggests Loki could figure out how to use their power. That would also give him an extra edge over Thanos if he decided to stop Thanos from killing him in the future, as mentioned above.

2 Loki Will Influence More Real-Life Historical Events

Loki pretends to be D.B. Cooper

This theory has two pieces of evidence that support it. The first is that the murderous variant of Loki is traveling through time. In addition to killing TVA's agents, he could also influence historical events or at least change the lives of the locals.

Meanwhile, the "nice" Loki, the one working with the TVA, could also change history during his cooperation with the organization. As the plane sequence with Loki as D.B. Cooper suggests, Loki is no stranger to playing with history.

1 Mephisto Will Show Up

Mephisto could be villain in WandaVision

The final theory concerning Loki's potential enemies states that Mephisto will show up. WandaVision fans will remember it was also a favorite theory for Wanda's and Vision's adventure, until it turned out that Agatha was behind everything.

In the first episode of Loki, when Mobius travels to 16th century France, a local child points at the portrait of the devil when asked who killed the men in the church. That could be a reference to Loki and his helmet, but it also could hint at someone far more sinister, such as Mephisto.
