Logitech is well known for its hardware, from mice and keyboards to high end gaming chairs. Today the latest iteration of its popular steering wheel and pedal set, the Logitech G923, was made available for pre-order.

In a world where people are stuck at home and mainstream networks like the BBC are broadcasting eSporting events, gaming hardware is of growing importance, and hardware companies need to rev up or be left in the dust. Enter Logitech, boasting its latest steering wheel has been designed with realism and performance in mind. The G923 is advertised as "a high-performance racing wheel that revolutionizes the eRacing experience."

Digital racers who are serious about winning need to be able to feel the digital track as if it were made of real asphalt. Logitech's Trueforce high definition force feedback technology aims to recreate the tactile experience of when the rubber meets the road by tapping directly into what is happening in supported game engines. The controller processes the information internally, tightly controlling the rumble pattern of the motors inside which translates into an immersive haptic experience. Considering eRacers are now winning real races, this tech further blurs the line between video games and reality.

The programmable dual-clutch may be able to get racers over the line faster in supported games, simulating a race car launch assist. A 24-point selection dial allows quick adjustments to in-game settings such as traction and brake force. The brake pedal features a progressive spring, a design that should give it a more realistic feel. The pedals themselves are also adjustable for comfort and control.

The hardware has been updated with a brushed aluminum wheel and pedals, genuine leather with a new racing stitch pattern, and other premium materials that should be both durable and comfortable for the long-haul racer. A built-in LED rev indicator completes the look. Such controller-specific advantages will put even more power into the hands of racers who can afford the latest tech, so racers should take care not to be disqualified for cheating.

The previous iteration of the steering wheel, the G920, was critiqued for having limited mounting options, as well as reported driver issues. Some customers received defective controllers, which squeaked when used or had a stiff brake pedal. Fortunately, Logitech was quick to acknowledge the issues, was willing to replace affected units, and has had time to learn and grow since.

The wheel comes with both PlayStation and Xbox-style controls integrated into the steering wheel. Therefore, not only will it be compatible with PC, PS4, and Xbox One, but also both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X upon their launch in Holiday of 2020.
