New Creatures To Contend With

It seems as if Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin will have several key differences from the game it's based on, including the story and characters featured. Square Enix released a final trailer for the game, showing off more action, more monsters, and some further glimpses of Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin's story. Featured in the trailer were some of the antagonists that players will be coming up against as Jack and his cohorts try to destroy Chaos with real-time combat.

Two of the big bads shown off in the latest trailer were the tentacled Kraken and spell-summoning Lich. Each monster has its own specific moves and abilities, with Kraken making use of its extra appendages to inflict damage, as well as using rush attacks. Its water-based moves will also utilize its environment, making it harder to escape as its abilities steal player buffs. In contrast, Lich is more earth-based, with a focus on spell casting and status ailments. The floating fiend can even summon skeletons to add to its attacking prowess, which will likely make it a tricky enemy to take down despite Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin's variety of combat abilities.

Stranger of Paradise's Job System

The new trailer and PlayStation blog post show off some combat systems in more detail, and focus on the flexibility of Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin's job system. It will allow players to change their fighting style to approach new and different threats in a variety of ways. Whether it's hand-to-hand combat or slinging spells, gamers can easily adapt how they handle each enemy. Leveling up unlocks more complex and advanced options, ensuring that as the threats escalate, so do the character's skills and tools to handle them. With an overview of the job system already established in previous updates, the latest trailer takes a closer look at some of the specific jobs on offer.

Some of the more advanced jobs available in Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin include Red Mage, Berserker, and Samurai, each with its own particular skill set and optimal uses. The Red Mage can support teammates and attack enemies with their combination of black and white magic, making them very useful in a fight. The Berserker, unsurprisingly, is an incredibly strong combatant with a whole range of powerful attacks. They have a focus on melee combat, and are able to wield both axes and greatswords to take down enemies. The Samurai's focus is MP recovery — a key skill to gain back points while still attacking foes.

New Final Fantasy Locations To Explore

One of the most exciting things to give players a glimpse of before a game is launched are the locations they'll get to explore. From intricately designed aesthetics to story-specific settings, many gamers love to see what they'll be able to expect when it comes to areas. Two new locations have recently been revealed, showing some of Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin's diverse environments and possible story clues. One of the new locations is a factory-like facility, with multiple levels and connecting walkways with an industrial style. It's apparently a machine-controlled high-security area on the ocean floor with water energy in abundance. At the center of the image, there is a mysterious apparatus with a glowing core, raising question as to its purpose and significance.

The second image is much more in keeping with a traditionally dark fantasy setting similar to Final Fantasy 1 as opposed to the more science fiction aura surrounding the previous location. Again moving away from the surface, this subterranean cavern is consumed with earth energy and features deadly traps to prevent its exploration. With the look and feel of a dungeon, this torchlight underground environment is strewn with the dead and could harbor something even more gruesome in its depths.

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin launches on March 18 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
