Tedious load times can make or break a game's replayability factor, and next-gen consoles think they may have found the solution for this.

With the next-gen consoles fast approaching, many wonder what sort of new advancements are going to be made to gaming as a whole. Microsoft and Sony developers recently revealed that the next step would take the form as a Solid State Drive (SSD), which will possibly pave the way for more interactive gaming experiences in the future by significantly reducing the strain of loading in-game features.

Game developers from various studios are excited about this announcement since they have had features of games removed because it would have caused more harm than good. Stuart Tilley, a game developer from Firesprite Games, praises this improvement, saying that "very often, features have to be discarded because their inclusion would lead to much longer load times."

The SSD is going to allow game developers to create more immersive worlds that are bigger and can enable players to move faster within them. The drive is also making better use of implementing positional sound in games, increasing the immersive qualities in videogames by making players feel like they are in the center of the action.

Another exciting update to note is the updated PlayStation 5's DualSense controller functions. One of those updates being the inclusion of the "Create" button, which will change the way players will be able to share their gameplay content with the rest of the world. DualSense has also added a microphone within the controller, which is ideal for quick communication between online players.

Next-Gen Hardware updates are almost always a huge win for the players. These sorts of improvements allow developers to create the passion projects they envisioned for their fans and give the consumers products we always dreamed of having. It will be fascinating to see how the SSD will allow for new gameplay mechanics in future games, possibly bringing new genres into the market. Until then, we will have to patiently see what else next-gen consoles have in store for us, knowing it all goes towards our betterment.
