Sony went ahead and described the recently announced LittleBigPlanet 3 as the ‘perfect showcase for the PS4’, which certainly made it seem like the game would only be arriving for their sleek-looking next-generation console. However, when asked for clarification about this on Twitter, Steven Isbell – the community head for the LittleBigPlanet series- confirmed the game would also jump to the PlayStation 3. Strange to not announce that at E3, no?
The E3 2014 release trailer (check it out here) revealed that Sackboy would be joined by three friends, whom each feature a unique ability to help get them through more intricate levels. With more layers to each map, plenty of new weapons and (presumably) more creative reveals coming out ahead of a November 2014 release, Sackboy and his friends look like they’re set to make plenty of noise.
The initial reveal of the game made no indication that it was anything more than a PlayStation 4 exclusive, which disappointed fans who felt that it was the kind of game which could easily be ported to the PS3. After seeing plenty of confusion in responses on the subject, Isbell took to Twitter to clear the air on the issue and confirm that a more official statement would be coming soon:
The LittleBigPlanet series has been one of Sony’s most-beloved exclusive titles since it was first introduced in 2008, so it’s great to see that fans still playing from the PlayStation 3 (which still has much larger player base) will be able to get in on the action. We assume they’ll be able to share their created content with those playing from the PS4, even if they may not be able to play co-op online with each other. Considering all previous levels made from the first and second games will still be accessible in LittleBigPlanet 3, it looks like Sumo Digital has done a great job in keeping their custom content library filled to the brim.
What do you think, Ranters? Will the PS4 version of the game have any exclusive content over the PS3 version? Are you excited by this news?
LittleBigPlanet 3 is schedule for a holiday 2014 release on PS4 and PS3.
