Although developer Media Molecule has already announced that they are stepping away from the LittleBigPlanet series for greener pastures, they are not willing to let their previous effort, LittleBigPlanet 2 go without leaving some worthwhile DLC content behind.

Just announced is a new set of Toy Story-inspired costumes and level kit that should allow gamers to recreate many of the classic scenes from the movies using their lovable Sackboy and Sackgirl.

Many of the usual suspects are making an appearance — Hamm, Slinky, Rex, and Buzz — but fan favorites like Woody and Jessie are notably absent, perhaps being kept for a future DLC update.

For the four costume sets — Slinky, Hamm, Rex, and Buzz — each will set you back $1.99, so you can only select your favorites or pick up all four (which can be viewed over on the official LittleBigPlanet 2 site). The level design kit however, which comes with a handful of objects, stickers, a musical track and 9 Toy Story-themed levels, is priced at $5.99. So, for those who feel inclined to pick up every piece of Toy Story DLC for LittleBigPlanet 2, that’s a grand total of around $14 — not bad for a piece of nostalgia.

It seems like despite “abandoning” fans of their series as they begin work on other ideas, Media Molecule has pulled a lot of fan service-type DLC out of their hats to keep the LittleBigPlanet community creating, playing, and sharing. Most recently was a set of Final Fantasy VII costumes that included the likes of Cloud, Tifa, and Sephiroth.

It appears that, at least for now, Media Molecule isn’t done with supporting their previously released LittleBigPlanet titles; they are just focusing their developmental side of things on new projects. If it comes from the same team that injected a healthy dose of whimsy and playfulness into the video game market, then we are more than interested to see what’s next from Media Molecule.

Will you be picking any or all of the Toy Story DLC pieces for LittleBigPlanet 2? What other classic properties would you like to see appear as costumes before the doors are closed on LittleBigPlanet 2?

LittleBigPlanet 2’s Toy Story DLC releases August 3, 2011 on the PSN.
