The development of Little Devil Inside has been a journey. Originally announced in 2015, a Kickstarter led to the action-adventure game's scope being increased dramatically. Years later, Little Devil Inside shifted to being a PlayStation console exclusive, and even now Little Devil Inside's development continues without a release date. That said, Little Devil Inside continues to grow closer and closer to its approaching launch. Its latest trailer, shown during Wednesday's PlayStation State of Play, reveals the most in-depth look at Little Devil Inside yet.

Little Devil Inside's October 2021 State of Play trailer provides a closer look at the action-adventure game's world map. Imagine a JRPG style of overworld map, a miniaturized version of the world allowing for faster traversal across long distances. Little Devil Inside's world map features a tilt-shift effect that lends it a realistic appearance, but then displays characters as toy figurines or board game meeples. It's very nostalgic, while still very modernized.

Players will be able to traverse the world map of Little Devil Inside freely, regardless of where the story or the current mission points them towards. They can walk, use a train, ride a horse, or utilize vehicles as available. There's no word on an airship, but Final Fantasy fans are certain to be hoping for one. Developer Neostream Interactive describes Little Devil Inside as a game that "is not about leveling up" as quickly as possible, so exploration is going to be encouraged.

From the world map, players will wander into two different types of encounters. The first is the familiar, like entering a town in Final Fantasy 7. It shifts players to a real-time gameplay scenario where all real-time actions including combat will be available. The other is unique, in that it's not a full shift away from the map. These mini-encounters can involve dialogue, a hazard on the map, or other small but intriguing interactions. It's an exciting feature, allowing for small and quick narrative and gameplay moments.

The trailer also provides a great opportunity to introduce potential Little Devil Inside players to the game's tone and humor. There's more to protagonist Billy and the world of Little Devil Inside than just combat and determined questing.

Along with Little Devil Inside's June 2020 trailer, PlayStation gamers and others have gotten a great introduction to setting, style, and gameplay of the action-adventure game. There's likely only more to come. However, since Little Devil Inside still doesn't have a release date, it's unclear when or where that news may be coming. As ever, Little Devil Inside fans will just have to remain patient.

Little Devil Inside is in development for PC, PS4, and PS5.
