It is fitting that an all-time great anime movie would have a hit-maker in J-Pop craft its theme song and now that pairing has yielded one of Japan’s most prestigious pop-music awards. LiSA won the Grand Prix of the 62nd Japan Record Award for the hit song “Homura,” which is the theme song for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba THE MOVIE Mugen Train.

LiSA is a J-pop artist that is starting to become synonymous with the Demon Slayer franchise after crafting the theme song for the Demon Slayer anime series and now the movie. The song “Homura” won her the Grand Prix, which is top honors in the Japanese music industry. Her previous single "Gurenge" served as the opening theme for the Demon Slayer anime series that released in 2019 has also been popular on YouTube.

LiSA’s involvement in the Demon Slayer franchise appears to have been a boon for both with her music becoming every bit as part of the experience as what is happening in the show and movie. It started with “Gurenge,” which was voted by TV Asahi as a top-30 anime theme song of all time. It made sense that she would return to the franchise and write “Homura”

The Demon Slayer movie would go on to become the highest-grossing anime movie in Japanese history and “Homura” followed that success with the award and a music video that drew more than 100 million views on YouTube. “Gurenge” was no slouch either with the music video drawing 57 million views on YouTube. The song also topped the Oricon singles charts (Japan’s version of the Billboard Music Charts) for 11 weeks, which is history-making in its own right.

Anime openings and endings are one of those convergence points between anime and Japanese popular music. The themes to some popular series are something that fans remember and it's been a spot for some artists to break in and stars to make their mark. LiSa’s history with the Demon Slayer franchise is one of a pop star adding to her own growing popularity.

Looking beyond the Demon Slayer movie, there is a high likelihood that LiSA returns if there is a second season.
