Secret Seashells are fun collectibles to find in Link’s Awakening that come with potent rewards. If the player manages to find at least 40 of the 50 shells in the game, they’ll be rewarded with the Koholint Sword, easily the best sword in the game.

But finding these Secret Seashells can be tough at times and some are very carefully hidden. For players looking to find all 50, this guide will offer important highlights on where to find each and every one.

16 Mabe Village

There are eight Seashells to find in this area. The first two can be found by catching a Blooper and Cheep Cheep while fishing. One is buried next to CiaoCiao’s doghouse. Another is buried under the plants by the Trendy Game, at the base of a column in the northeast corner.

Two shells can be won in the Trendy Game. Another is hidden in a tree west of Tail Cave and needs Pegasus Boots to be reached. Then the eight Shell is behind a false wall in Tail Cave that can be reached with a bomb.

15 Toronbo Shores

There are only two Secret Seashells in Toronbo Shores. One can be knocked free from a tree with Pegasus Boots on the western ledge of the Shores. The other is on the opposite side buried near the bench where the player sits with Marin.

14 Mysterious Forest

There are three shells to find in the Mysterious Forest. The first is buried by the entrance to the Forest near Mr. Write's House on the left side of the road. The second is in the center of the forest where Link found the Toadstool with a cluster of blue flowers. The final shell is in the southern part of the forest near the river beneath a boulder Link can lift with the Power Bracelet.

13 Koholint Prairie

There is only one shell found here and it’s near the Witch’s House. Down in the lower section is a grassy patch where the shell is buried.

12 Pothole Field

Seven Seashells can be found in Pothole Field. By the western Telephone Booth is a tree that can be dashed into to knock the shell loose. Another is located above the Key Cavern entrance. The third shell is on a small northern island in the pond beneath a plant.

Another shell is below the skull blocked the path to Koholint Prairie. A shell can be found in the tunnel below Richard’s house, in the chest located on the left path. Another shell is in a maze in the south east corner of the map. In this maze is a false wall that can be blow up. Below the Owl statue is the sixth Shell. The last one is under a boulder in that same maze.

11 Kanalet Castle

There are three Seashells outside of the Castle. The first is in the northwest corner of the moat under a waterfall. The second shell is in the southwest corner in a small room that can be reached with the Hookshot the player gets after fighting the Master Stalfos.

The final shell is on the raised ledge to the right of the Seashell Mansion tucked under a plant. This Mansion is also where the player goes to cash in the Seashells to get rewards.

10 Animal Village

There are three shells in the Animal Village. The first is a reward for delivering the letter to Mr. Write and returning to Christine in the north east corner. The second shell is obtained from Zora after the player gets the Magnifying Glass.

The last one in the Village is given to the player by the Walrus that was blocking the entrance to Yarna Desert. If the player plays the Ballad of the Wind Fish with the Ocarina, the Walrus will gift the shell to the player.

9 Yarna Desert

There are only two Shells in Yarna Desert. The first is in the northeast corner with the cluster of cacti. Digging in the center of this cluster will yield the shell. The other shell is at the end of a narrow path on the east side.

8 Martha’s Bay

There are four shells in Martha’s Bay. The first is under a pot by the Ghost’s House. The second is near the Telephone Booth in the center under a plant.

The third shell is near that same Telephone Booth under a lone plant in a corner by the water. The last Seashell is on the plateau on the pond’s left side by an Owl Statue.

7 Tabahl Wasteland

Three shells are hiding in the Wasteland. In the northeast corner is a signpost next to a rock, under that rock is the shell. The second shell is a reward for defeating the Fill Up Your Hearts challenge given by Dampe.

The last shell is in the corrupted forest on the east side. Dead center between the two farthest purple trees is the buried shell.

6 Goponga Swamp

There is only one Secret Seashell here and it’s just above the Telephone Booth. To the right of the ladder is a cluster of plants with the shell buried beneath the center plant.

5 Tal Tal Heights

Tal Tal Heights has only one Secret Seashell. Between the warp pad and the staircase leading down is a raised hole. Link can toss a bomb into this hole and a shell will spit out.

4 Ancient Ruins

Two shells are found at the Ancient Ruins. The first is outside the Ruins in the maze to the north. In the far northeast corner of the maze is a boulder hiding a shell.

The other shell is inside the ruins. Below an Armos in the center is a hidden staircase. The bottom of that staircase leads to a mini dungeon where the final shell is.

3 Tal Tal Mountain Range

There are five Secret Seashells in this Mountain Range. The first is by the shack on the western side. There’s a hole beneath the broken bridge that Link can drop a bomb into and launch a shell out of. The second shell is under a rock in the center of the area by the bridge.

The third is obtained in Eagle Tower after defeating Red Hinox. Another is underneath a waterfall above three waterfalls in the center bottom part of the map. The last shell is on a chest to the east of the waterfalls on a raised plateau.

2 Turtle Rock

This area is hiding two Secret Seashells. The first is east of the Telephone Booth where a cluster of rocks make a ring. In the center is the buried shell. The other shell is above the falling boulders tucked into the northeast corner of the plateau.

1 Rapids Ride

The last shells of the game are found in Rapids Ride and there are three of them. The first is inside the Face Shrine at the top of a set of stairs.

The second shell is in the center of the rapids on the furthest east plateau. The player can Hookshot up there and dig for the shell. The last Shell in this spot is a reward for completing the Rapids Race challenge in under 35 seconds.
