Life is Strange: True Colors is coming in under four months now, and it has lots of fans of the Life is Strange franchise excited over a new game. As customary in the Life is Strange series, the main character of True Colors, Alex Chen, has a superpower. Alex's power allows her to sense people's auras, painted in colors corresponding to the way they feel, and she can use this ability to her advantage if she wants to catch Gabe's killer. In fact, the game's premise is that Alex moves to the vibrant, small town of Haven Springs, Colorado, to reconnect with her long-lost brother, Gabe. Unfortunately, things take an unforeseen turn when Gabe is killed.
Luckily, Alex can count on the friendships she will begin to form in Haven Springs with both Ryan and Steph. Ryan is a new character, a park ranger and a nerd for birds, while Steph is a returning character from Life is Strange: Before the Storm, who is a charming drum player and game designer. As the story of Life is Strange: True Colors progresses, players will be able to form a deeper relationship with either of these two.

Ryan was born in Haven Springs, and he never left his hometown in pursuit of expanding his own horizons, and he is content exactly where he is. He is a park ranger, and he is passionate about everything related to nature, including CDs of calls used by birds in the wilds. Notably, he is purchasing this very item when he meets Alex. Ryan is a dependable man, with a muscular physique, and a certain curiosity about his surroundings, including people.
Alex can count on Ryan for the stability she has never really enjoyed in her life because of the traumatic childhood she and Gabe shared, and because she couldn't move on from that pain. As such, Ryan's serene temper and his sturdy confidence make him a great friend or, if players wish so, something more.

Steph is an artsy person that also happens to be a huge nerd for roleplaying games or, well, any sort of game actually. In Before the Storm she was best friends with Mikey North, a boy who loves playing a Dungeons and Dragons-esque game with Steph and their other friends, with whom Steph shares a deep interest in films, music, and theatrics. Steph sells DVDs to make some money while in high school, and she appears to be openly queer and very frank about her sexuality, disregarding whatever people think of her. She bonds with Chloe, eventually asking her if her crush Rachel in Before the Storm is a gamer, probably seeking to find common ground with her.
In Life is Strange: True Colors, Steph is a grown woman, and she is very much into playing drums. She left Arcadia Bay, eventually moving to Haven Springs after a concert because she fell in love with its small-town charm. Always the geeky type, she studied video game design, but then she discovered her huge passion for music that was always there, which eventually was the reason why she visited Haven Springs in the first place. This passion of hers landed Steph a job at the Rocky Mountain Record Traders, the record store in Haven Springs, where Alex first meets her and Ryan, too.
She is also a DJ for the local radio, and her long-lasting love for roleplaying games never waded, so she is still playing, and apparently she convinces Alex to play as well. Steph's creativity and enthusiasm make her a good friend, and one Alex can rely on to take her mind off things. Much like it is the case with Ryan, Steph is the other character with whom players can hit the romance angle. Life is Strange: True Colors looks like a promising game for fans and new players alike thanks to how emotionally impactful it seems it will be.
