Following two acclaimed games, Life is Strange is returning later this year with a sequel known as Life is Strange: True Colorsintroducing a new protagonist, a fresh story, and an original set of supernatural powers. The game will this time follow Alex Chen, who has the ability to read the emotions of those around her and channel their feelings, which its announcement trailer showed is as much a gift as it is a curse.

With the game set to launch this September, Square Enix is ramping up its marketing push behind the sequel, with the latest slice of content showing off the game's introduction of Alex. The clip is just under two minutes long and focuses on the protagonist talking to a social worker about her time in foster care. It's an intriguing introduction to the world of Life is Strange: True Colors, setting up its story and Alex as a character.

Throughout the introduction, the social worker asks Alex about her impending move to a small town in Colorado, where she'll be living with her brother Gabe. The protagonist seems initially excited about the change of scenery, talking about how she intends to pick up a few shifts at a local bar. However, the mood shifts quickly, with the social worker asking Alex whether Gabe's aware of her "issues." The clip ends with the protagonist revealing that he isn't, telling her interviewee that she intends to put her past behind her and live a normal life.

The clip reveals a lot of interesting tidbits about the story of Life is Strange: True Colorsnamely Alex living in foster care and clearly struggling with the demons of her past. As those who caught the announcement trailer will know, Alex's life in the town of Haven Springs won't be the refreshing do-over she expects, with Gabe's death forcing her to start an emotionally charged investigation into the secrets of the town and its locals. Unlike previous Life is Strange games, True Colors won't rely on an episodic release schedule, so players will get to experience the entire game when it drops on September 10.

The Life is Strange franchise has developed quite the legacy over the last decade, with its first iteration quickly becoming one of the defining pioneers of the episodic, narrative-focused adventure game genre. It eventually garnered a sequel in 2018, with Life is Strange 2 spinning a new story set in the same universe, switching from the tale of Max and Chloe to the adventures of Sean and Daniel. Life is Strange: True Colors looks to continue that tradition, with Alex's journey coming complete with new characters, mysteries, and impactful moral choices.

Life is Strange: True Colors is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
