Life Is Strange: True Colors introduces fans of the series to new characters, a fresh setting, and another supernatural ability. Yet, thankfully, the latest installment doesn't change a lot about the gameplay. For instance, Life Is Strange: True Colors follows the series convention of letting players tailor their own adventure by giving them several decisions to make during the game.

As always, certain choices have little significance over the whole experience, such as deciding what the protagonist shall wear for the chapter. However, others alter how the main narrative plays out and the fates of certain characters. Here are the ones that fit into the latter group.

Updated August 5, 2022, by Jerrad Wyche: As gamers await what's next for the Life Is Strange series, there are plenty of reasons to either replay the series or hop back into the newest game, Life Is Strange: True Colors. Like the other games in the series, the choices made by the player can seriously determine the outcome of the story. It really comes down to whether players want to watch the alternate story paths on YouTube, or hop into the game and find out how different their experience could have been.

11 Telling Your Brother The Truth (Chapter 1)

Life Is Strange True Colors Decisions Gabe Tell

During the end of the first chapter of the game, players will be given the option for Alex to reveal the truth about her powers to her brother Gabe. Regardless of what the player chooses, it has no real drastic effect on the story, and Gabe accepts what Alex is willing to share or not share.

The reality of the moment-to-moment feeling, though, is that if players truly want Alex to connect with her long-lost brother. With that in mind, it arguably feels like her sharing this intimate knowledge with him can only strengthen their newfound bond.

10 Intervene During Mac & Riley's Argument (Chapter 1)

Life Is Strange True Colors Decisions Mac Riley Bar

Mac is involved in some of the more difficult Life Is Strange: True Colors choices, and that's mostly due to him being a hard-headed and stubborn individual. Midway through the first chapter, Alex will make her way into the local bar, and inside she'll have the chance to interject into a fight.

Mac and Riley will be loudly noticeable as the two argue in front of everyone. Players who choose to leave them alone will see the couple work through it, while those who butt in can bear witness to Mac and Riley breaking up. This has emotional repercussions for both of them moving forward.

9 Advise Charlotte On Typhon's Affidavit (Chapter 2)

When visiting Charlotte in her dispensary during chapter two, she reveals that she's been given an affidavit by the Typhon corporation. By signing it, she would agree not to press charges against the company for Gabe's death, and she'd receive plenty of money in the process.

Charlotte is hesitant to sign the morally questionable document because she feels she would be betraying Gabe. On the other hand, the money they're offering her would be enough to send Ethan to college. So, she asks Alex to make the decision for her. The main consequence of this choice comes in the last chapter during the council meeting. If players convince Charlotte to sign the affidavit, she won't be able to back Alex up.

8 Whether To Inform Eleanor Of Gabe's Death (Chapter 2)

When Alex goes to the flower shop in chapter two to search for Mac, she discovers that Eleanor is suffering from memory loss. After players help the poor woman figure out what she was doing, Alex realizes that Eleanor doesn't remember that Gabe died. It's up to the player whether they give her the bad news or not.

If Alex does reveal Gabe's fate, Eleanor is devastated, especially because she missed the wake. However, it does allow her to be there for the tribute on the bridge. If Alex doesn't inform Eleanor, the latter misses the heartfelt event. Plus, Riley ends up finding out about Eleanor's illness, which means she doesn't go away to college. Finally, Eleanor doesn't help Alex at the council meeting.

7 Call Mac Down Or Walk Away (Chapter 2)

Towards the end of the second chapter, Alex uses her power to extract information from Mac about Gabe's death. Players learn that he wasn't really at fault, and he tried to stop the blast in the mine. However, the man does cover for his employers, out of fear that they'll take him out.

By the end, he starts to have a panic attack, and Alex is the only one around who can help. If players choose to calm him down, Mac sticks around in Haven and seems to improve as a person. Alternatively, by choosing to walk away, Mac leaves town forever.

6 Who Flirts With Diane? (Chapter 3)

Life Is Strange True Colors Decisions Steph Diane Flirt

A big part of Life Is Strange: True Colors is figuring out if Steph or Ryan is who the player wants Alex to end up with by the time the credits roll. Sure, they could also decide to have Alex remain single, but where's the fun in that? In the bar during Chapter 3, Alex will need to decide if Steph or Ryan should flirt with bar-goer Diane in order to distract her.

Whoever is chosen will have their interest in Alex move forward and draw them closer emotionally. So, in a way, deciding who is in charge of flirting is one of the more significant Life Is Strange: True Colors choices in the entirety of the game.

5 Whether To Take Charlotte's Anger Away (Chapter 3)

Alex's supernatural power is fascinating and is among the reasons why True Colors stands out among the series' games. One of the greatest uses of her power comes in a conversation with Charlotte during chapter 3. Alex learns that Charlotte is furious at several people, including her own son. This anger seems to be hurting her, so players get the chance to take it away with the protagonist's abilities.

If they do so, Charlotte becomes almost emotionless for the rest of the game, and she doesn't step in to help Alex in the council meeting. The decision also leads to Alex having an outburst at Steph and Ryan before they go through the evidence against Typhon. As a result, Ryan is less likely to believe the protagonist later in the game.

4 Tell Riley The Truth About Eleanor, Or Let Her Go To College (Chapter 4)

One of the game's best-hidden major choices comes during the Spring Festival in chapter four. If Riley doesn't know about Eleanor's illness, Alex can find the girl at the bus stop ready to leave. Then players get one last chance to reveal that Eleanor is having difficulties.

Spilling the secret to Riley convinces the young woman to give up on her dream and stay in Haven to look after her nana. Then later, if the player makes this choice, Eleanor will not believe Alex's accusations against Jed and Typhon.

3 Choose Who to Give Alex's Rose To (Chapter 4)

Alex joins Life Is Strange's long list of LGBTQ+ characters, as she's willing to romance either Steph or Ryan. During chapter four's Spring Festival, players can pick up a rose and give it to either of the two characters.

Whoever they hand it to will invite them up to the roof later, which will create the opportunity to lock in that romance. If players go through with it, their choice of partner will end up with Alex at the end of the game. Alternatively, players can decide to leave the roses alone and finish the game single.

2 Sign Affidavit Or Take Pike's Fear (Chapter 4)

In chapter four, Alex gets taken to the police station, where Officer Pike will inform the protagonist that Diane has pressed charges for her stolen USB. But Alex gets the chance to avoid prison time by signing an affidavit, meaning she can't investigate Typhon anymore.

Pike desperately wants her to sign and, refuses to look at the evidence on the USB because he's scared of the mining company. Players can choose to sign the document or use Alex's power to take Pike's fear away. By choosing the latter, the Officer isn't afraid to stand up to Typhon in the last chapter.

1 Stay In Haven Or Leave To Seek Adventure (Chapter 5)

The final choice of the game impacts Alex's future. While on the roof of the Black Lantern, the protagonist has an imaginary conversation with Gabe, in which she considers the next step of her life. Her first option is to stay in Haven and build a stable life in the small town.

On the other hand, she can leave to seek adventure and even perhaps get her music career off the ground. Either way, she is joined by her choice of partner – if any. Players don't get to see how everything exactly plays out after making this choice; it's left open-ended for the player to imagine.

Life is Strange: True Colors is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and will release later for Switch.
