Round8 Studio released a new gameplay trailer for Lies of P which shows Pinocchio battling some unsettling Victorian horrors, among other things. This is the second piece of footage from the upcoming game released in the last month, arriving weeks after AMD's stunning Lies of P 8K gameplay trailer.
Lies of P is an action RPG from a Neowiz subsidiary best known for its work on Bless Unleashed, a moderately successful 2019 MMO for PC and last-generation consoles. Round8 announced the game in mid-2021, describing it as a single-player experience that will deliver an interactive retelling of Pinocchio in a Victorian steampunk setting. While such a combination of gameplay and visuals appears reminiscent of several FromSoftware games, the Lies of P developer says Bloodborne similarities weren't intentional.
The newly released teaser clocks in at exactly two minutes, though the majority of its footage appears to have been taken from earlier promo materials, going back to a 40-minute "director's cut" Lies of P trailer unveiled back in September 2022. That said, the video does offer a couple new glimpses of some previously confirmed locations across its world of Belle Epoque, named after a French term for "beautiful era." That moniker isn't meant to be taken literally, as evidenced by the game's eerie aesthetic, as well as the fact that its premise revolves around Pinocchio's quest to become a real boy by slaying countless Victorian horrors.
While Round8 Studio has yet to attach an official release date to Lies of P, the rapidly increasing frequency of its trailers suggests that the RPG is getting closer to hitting the market. However, a release in the first half of the year is becoming less likely by the day, not least because Neowiz has yet to open direct pre-orders for the game.
For context, the South Korean gaming giant has a notable track record of offering advanced orders for its upcoming titles in the run-up to their market debuts, having most recently done so just last month with the Western version of Switch ARPG Unsouled. But Lies of P pre-orders can currently only be placed through a select few third-party retailers, none of which claim to have any insider insight into when exactly is the ARPG planned to release.
While Lies of P's Bloodborne comparisons might be setting some unrealistic expectations, they also helped raise the game's profile, with many fans of the genre now keeping an eye out for the upcoming Pinocchio Soulslike. According to publicly available data from the Steam API, Lies of P has been wishlisted over 31,000 times as of mid-February, which places it in the top 40 most-followed games on the platform.
Lies of P is scheduled to hit PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S in 2023.
