Choi Ji-Won, the game director for the upcoming Soulslike Lies of P, reveals it will take around 30 hours to beat the game as well as some of the key inspirations behind it. Taking an alternate stance on the story of Pinocchio, players in Lies of P will control a mechanical version of the puppet as he fights through a gritty setting hoping to become a human. Looking to release in 2023 as a Day One Xbox Game Pass launch, the developer of Lies of P has been steadily revealing more about what players can expect from the Soulslike.

From the trailers and gameplay footage shown so far for Lies of P, a lot of fans have already drawn comparisons between it and some of FromSoftware's games. A lot of gamers see clear similarities between Lies of P and Bloodborne, considering the atmosphere and setting of the former. With nothing yet confirmed about a Bloodborne remaster or sequel, many are looking to titles like Lies of P to fill that Bloodborne-shaped hole.

Lies of P's game director has stepped in with some new details for those looking forward to the Soulslike, giving information on how long it takes to beat. According to Ji-Won, the average playthrough of Lies of P takes around 30 hours to complete, but if a player wants to see everything the game has to offer, it could take upwards of 60 hours. This means that the Soulslike likely has plenty for fans to do, and if the combat and gameplay of the indie game match up to fan expectations, this could give replayability options as well.

Also, Ji-Won pushed back against gamers comparing Lies of P to Bloodborne. According to the game director, while Bloodborne's setting draws inspiration from Victorian England, Lies of P has a "completely different background," being set in the Belle Epoque era of France in the 19th century. Ji-Won states that the FromSoftware title that most inspired Lies of P was actually Elden Ring, saying that he "studied and learned a lot" from it.

Alongside the 60 hour runtime for Lies of P, developer Neowiz is also planning to bring some DLC and additional content to the game following its launch, giving players even more to do after they've run through the Soulslike a few times. According to Ji-Won, there are multiple stories that can be explored "around Pinocchio," so it seems the team hasn't run out of ideas yet. Alternate history settings like those in Lies of P and Steelrising hold a lot of potential for the Souslike genre, with many twists on old stories to explore.

Lies of P is currently scheduled to release in 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
