While gamers continue to try and purchase next-gen consoles, they are going to want the necessary tech to get the full performance out of their systems. While there are many gaming-ready TVs on the market, some manufacturers have decided to take the visual experience to the next level. One of these companies is LG, and it recently launched a new line of TVs that go by the philosophy that bigger is better and way more expensive.
While there have been high-quality LG gaming monitors and TVs for years, the company now looks to be taking things even further. Recently, it announced a collection of Direct View LED (DVLED) home cinema displays. Even though size options start at 108-inch screens, this line of TVs goes all the way up to a 325-inch 8k display. It seems that these new DVLED screens are meant to be a better yet much more expensive alternative to projectors.
The DVLED technology behind these screens is different from many other options on the market. The display uses LEDs along with some MicroLeds to create pixels. A lot of other screens use an LCD layer to create the image on the panel. One of the advantages of this technique is a higher level of contrast, however, this is also what leads to the incredible size of the displays.
This line of TVs used to only be available for commercial buyers, however, now anyone can purchase them. While the idea of playing the best-looking video games on one of the best-looking TVs might make some gamers start to salivate, this probably isn't going to be the best option for most consumers.
There are some major issues potential buyers face when considering purchasing this TV. The first problem is the price. While there are many pieces of expensive tech on the market, this goes above and beyond. At $1.7 million, this display far exceeds the price of the company’s other high-end options such as the rollable OLED TV for $100,000, and makes this massive screen outside the budget of the vast majority of consumers. Another problem facing the prospective TV owner is size. Even though the extremely large screen might be a selling point for some, many others probably don’t have the necessary wall space to mount this piece of tech that exceeds 2,000 pounds.
Despite offering a stunning image, these new LG DVLED TVs probably won’t be making it into the living rooms of most households. However, as the company continues to innovate, it will be interesting to see if this DVLED tech becomes more accessible to the average consumer.
