Showtime has revealed a new trailer for its series adaptation of the horror hit, Let the Right One In. The series, following up on both a 2008 Swedish version and a 2010 American adaptation, is based on the novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist.

The Showtime series, like the films, looks to expand the story of a young girl with the violent, bloody affliction of vampirism and the young boy next door who befriends her. While horror fans have praised the Swedish version of Let the Right One In, fans have mixed opinions of the American remake titled Let Me In, which starred Chloe Grace Moretz as the terrifying but sympathetic young vampire forever trapped in an adolescent existence. This particular new series version had been in early development at both A&E and TNT for several years before landing at Showtime.

According to the trailer, the new adaptation - which stars Oscar nominee Demián Bichir as the girl’s father, Mark, and Maison Taylor Baez as Eleanor, the young girl - focuses heavily on the father-daughter relationship in addition to Eleanor's friendship with her neighbor. The two battle the ever-encroaching authorities after a slew of murders plague the neighborhood that Eleanor may or may not be responsible for, in addition to seeking a possible cure to her affliction. The trailer shows both familiar characters, including the lonely boy next door, as well as potential new storylines and conflicts expanding on the original premise.

The series, over the span of 10 episodes, promises much of the same fraught character development, drama, and bloody gore as the films that preceded it, but also offers a new opportunity for writer and producer Andrew Hinderaker (Away, Penny Dreadful) to explore other themes and threads not always possible in a feature film, including the relationship between father and daughter. “What I found so compelling about that film is there's a much smaller relationship between the vampire and [her] adult caretaker," Hinderaker said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "I really used the film as inspiration for a story that really focuses on a 12-year-old girl who has been a vampire for 10 years. She has been taken care of by her father, who keeps her alive, who keeps them ahead of the law, and who has kept hope alive for both of them that one day they will find a cure and this won't be her life always."

The original Swedish film and the American adaptation have both often made lists of favorite recent horror and notable vampire films, meaning many fans are looking to this adaptation to rival what made the storyline a fan favorite. After all, television is often considered the better platform to tell well-developed stories with fully realized characters.

Let the Right One In premieres on Showtime on Friday, October 7th, 2022.
