The LEGO franchise has given gamers family-friendly adaptations of some of the most prolific properties in pop culture for over a decade. From Star Wars to Harry Potter, more than half a dozen different franchises have been transformed into the versatile toy bricks for the enjoyment of all ages. The LEGO series has remained a mainstay in the video game industry thanks to the intuitive puzzle-based gameplay and signature humor within each installment, and with the gargantuan LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga in development, there's a lot of potential for where the series could go from there.

Whenever LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga releases, it's likely that developer Traveller's Tales will want to pursue an original property for the next LEGO title. There hasn't been a LEGO game that wasn't some kind of sequel since 2018's LEGO The Incredibles, so giving fans something new would keep the series from treading old ground. When considering some of the biggest pop culture franchises to adapt into a LEGO game, there's a treasure trove of options that would fit seamlessly with the LEGO formula. Perhaps one of the most perfect candidates however, would be wide world of Power Rangers.

Power Rangers And The LEGO Philosophy

The Power Rangers are one of the most recognizable properties to come out of the colorful and crazy world of the 90s. Based on the Super Sentai franchise, the Power Rangers franchise has seen a considerable amount of evolution since its debut, and has long been considered its own independent series. The series has served as the epitome of a flashy action show, and it's largely responsible for bringing the tokusatsu tradition of entertainment to the attention of much of the younger generation of the 90s. The Power Rangers have become ingratiated in pop culture ever since, and it puts them in a perfect position to be adapted by the LEGO series.

The vast majority of LEGO games draw on the intense nostalgia associated with the franchise that's being adapted. This is most prevalent with the LEGO Star Wars series, which will have its fifth game when The Skywalker Saga releases. With how prolific the Power Rangers franchise has been through the years, there's generations of fans that still share a strong connection with the property. It would also likely blend very well with the way Traveller's Tales makes its game. The LEGO games never take themselves too seriously, which could have the potential to pair well with the occasional silliness of the Power Rangers.

Story Potential In LEGO Power Rangers

When considering a narrative for a potential LEGO Power Rangers game, there's a handful of different routes that Traveller's Tales could take. Not only are there decades worth of material to choose from, but the Power Rangers franchise is made up of so many different teams and overarching stories that it'd likely be enough for a whole trilogy of games. From the original "Mighty Morphin'" to the current "Dino Fury", a whole series could be made out of the different Power Rangers eras. Traveller's Tales could also take all of this material and do something similar to LEGO Marvel Super Heroes and make an original story.

If a LEGO Power Rangers game did go with an original story, there would be more than enough material and characters to fill it out with. One plot device that the Power Rangers and LEGO games have played with in the past is the concept of characters from alternated dimensions or different points in time meeting up for one big crossover. Considering the multitude of unique Power Rangers teams over the years, creating a new story that blends every era of the franchise could make for a dream crossover experience. It could very well turn out like the ambitious Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid, just on a much larger scale.

The Power Rangers & LEGO Gameplay

Bringing the Power Rangers into the LEGO franchise could make for some excellent gameplay opportunities. Each of the Rangers is known for having their own specialties based on their personalities and unique abilities, and this could translate well to the way the LEGO games design puzzles. For more tech-savvy characters, puzzles based on technology could be targeted for them, and for those that are particularly strong, they could be given puzzles that require a certain strength ability. The sheer amount of Rangers through the franchise, as well as the Rangers' villains, could also make for a character list that rivals other LEGO titles.

Meticulous detailing aside, one of the biggest places for potential in a LEGO Power Rangers game would come from the massive action set pieces that the franchise is known for. Part of the charm of the Power Rangers series comes from the bombastic action, specifically whenever they unite with the Megazord to take down a suddenly transformed foe. Adapting these moments from the series in a LEGO game could make for some of the best action the LEGO franchise has ever seen, and the combination of LEGO bricks with the already blocky form of the Megazord could turn out to be visually stunning.

At this point, it's hard to say what Traveller's Tales has planned once LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is finally out in the wild. With how tumultuous the development of The Skywalker Saga has proved to be, it seems unlikely that LEGO fans would hear anything of a new project any time soon. That being said, it's not totally uncommon for developers to work on two projects at a time, even if one of them is in the conceptual phase of development. Power Rangers fans will just have to wait until Traveller's Tales is ready for a new project to see if they'll be able to battle for the plastic Grid.
