Today, publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and developer TT Games released a fresh new trailer for LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2. Though it clocks it at a little under two minutes in length, the clip is packed full of additional looks at the game's main villain, Kang the Conqueror.
Featuring explosive battles and foreboding voiceovers that warn in-game characters of impending doom, the trailer seems to promise that the action in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 is heavily driven by the power-hungry Kang. An iconic antagonist from the Avengers lore, Kang makes use of his 40th-century technology to go head-to-head with Earth's Mightiest Heroes in a real-deal rematch following the first LEGO Marvel Super Heroes title.
Beyond the big bad at the center of the game are a handful of never-before-explored worlds through which players can venture. Face off against the nefarious, time-traveling Kang in the American Old West, amongst the pyramids of ancient Egypt, in a futuristic New York City in the year 2099, and even in the streets of Sakaar, the planet from which the Incredible Hulk hails. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 offers up these new playable lands in the expansive open hub world of Chronopolis.
Alongside Kang are a slew of classic comic book characters, including some slightly obscure picks as well. So far, the roster features everyone's favorite web-slinging hero, Peter Parker/Spider-Man, in a variety of different get-ups; Gwen Stacy in Spider-Gwen form; Eugene Thompson/Agent Venom; Howard the Duck; the entire Guardians of the Galaxy group; Bruce Banner/the Incredible Hulk; Steve Rogers/Captain America; Medusalith Amaquelin-Boltagon/Medusa; and the hybrid of Carnage and Venom, Carnom.
LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 was confirmed back in May in a high-energy announcement trailer, where news broke that the upcoming title would include characters spanning across various different Marvel timelines and universes. Shortly after, during Disney's D23 Expo in California, Marvel took the stage to reveal that the game would come bundled with extra costumes based upon and inspired by the ones seen in the latest Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming. The inclusion of these additional outfits could indicated that, down the line, the company will continue working with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and TT Games to bring armor and/or suits featured in upcoming movies like Thor: Ragnarok or Avengers: Infinity War to LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2.
Upon the game's release, a standard version and a Deluxe Edition will be available. The latter comes with main title access, a Season Pass, and exclusive entry to the Classic Guardians of the Galaxy Pack, which includes Yondu, Stakar Ogord, Martinex, Charlie-27, and Aleta Ogord to join Star-Lord, Groot, Rocket, Drax, and Gamora.
Based on this new Kang the Conqueror trailer, it appears that LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 has quite a lot to offer its potential players. From a sinister big bad to a slew of wide-open worlds to travel to, the title's elements seem enough to prop it up into "great game" territory. However, trouble still lingers in the background as some have speculated that the less popular Marvel characters may have received less attention in development, thus leaving them with fewer story and gameplay options and making them less enjoyable overall. Hopefully naysayers' worries will be squashed when LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 is released later this year.
LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 is due out on November 17 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. A Nintendo Switch version is currently in development, but isn't slated to debut until holiday 2017.
