A host of new franchises will join Lego Dimensions as the game enters its second year of content, including Adventure Time, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and Sonic the Hedgehog.

Lego Dimensions was widely praised upon its release last year, largely for the fact that it livened up the gameplay established by previous video game adaptations of the construction toy with a massive cast of characters. Now, there's confirmation that the next wave of content will expand the roster significantly.

Late last night, there was a leak that seemed to confirm that a diverse list of properties spanning from The A-Team to Adventure Time would soon be introduced to the game. While Lego Dimensions already boasts an incredibly varied selection of characters and settings, there were some doubts about the legitimacy of the list.

The presence of franchises already linked with Lego like Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter seemed suspect, as these games have traditionally been given tie-in games outside of the Dimensions ecosystem. Moreover, outlandish properties like Mission: Impossible and Sonic the Hedgehog seemed more like fan requests than upcoming releases.

However, it seems the leak was indeed real — and the cat being let out of the bag has forced Lego and the game's developer Traveller's Tales to accelerate their reveal plans. As such, the game's E3 trailer has now gone live, and it gives us a good look at a broad swathe of the new content on its way to Dimensions.

There's so much chaos in the ninety-second clip that it's difficult to catch everything that's going on. The trailer starts with some footage of the new Ghostbusters squad from this year's movie doing what they do best on the streets of New York City, only to be upstaged by Harry Potter.

We then move to Diagon Alley, where Wyldstyle from The Lego Movie runs through Voldemort on her motorcycle. In case that wasn't enough of a franchise mash-up, we also see Ethan Hunt from Mission: Impossible enjoying some quality time with Scooby Doo.

Finally, we move on the Land of Ooo, where Finn and Jake from Adventure Time are ready for a battle than also includes Mr. T. However, that's not before Batman teams up with gentle giant Sloth from The Goonies in a riff on Superman v. Batman.

While the game should be great fun, collectors will be eager to get their hands on some of the new minifigures set to be introduced alongside this new content. The likes of the Powerpuff Girls, Sonic the Hedgehog and E.T. have never been officially released as Lego models before, so they're sure to be hot commodities among enthusiasts.

Lego Dimensions is available now for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Wii U.
