‘LEGO Batman 3’ Developer Videos Explore Character & Design

Although the LEGO games are oftentimes overlooked because of their annual release schedule, those who do regularly turn out for TT Games‘ titles know that each packs a ton of content. Most overtly, each LEGO game offers a diverse selection of playable characters that, depending on the property, run the gamut from widely-known to extremely obscure.

To that end, Warner Bros. has released two new behind-the-scenes videos for their latest LEGO release, LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, to give fans a better sense of this year’s game’s design. Because while it may have Batman in its title, this game is as much about the Justice League as it is The Dark Knight and Robin.

The first of the two videos (seen above) focuses on the cast of characters available in LEGO Batman 3. As we’ve detailed before, TT Games is going for broke with this one, throwing in as many DC Comics characters as they can, along with some notable DC fans and writers as well. Heck, they’ve even thrown Kevin Smith into the mix for good measure.

Ultimately, though, the focus will be on the core cast of Justice League characters, who are working to stop Brainiac from enacting a sinister plot. And that plot just so happens to send the Caped Crusader to space – hence the Beyond Gotham title.

The second video focuses on the new gameplay for LEGO Batman 3, which from our hands-on impressions looks to improve upon past games in some significant ways. Where the second game introduced the ability to change character abilities through different types of suits – but only let players switch at specific points – this game lets players switch on the fly.

As TT Games has already proven with past LEGO Batman games and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, they know how to leverage these characters’ unique abilities in order to deliver fun experiences. More importantly, they do so with a sense of style, making sure that each characters’ personality shines through, be it Green Arrow or Superman.

Fans of the LEGO games have just a few weeks longer to wait until the release of LEGO Batman 3, but until then it appears Warner Bros. is not done with promoting the game. Look for more reveals and info in the coming weeks.
