Comic books have been a means of escapism and awe-inducing wonder for years, and their popularity has reached an all-time high thanks largely to the popular film adaptations of these iconic caped crusaders. The video game industry has only just started cranking out quality content that allows fans to take up the mantle of their favorite superheroes, and one developer that's managed to get it right (albeit in a blockier form) has been TT Games with its various comic-related LEGO titles.

While many Bat fans are eagerly anticipating the arrival of Batman: Arkham Knight — which admittedly looks a lot more gritty and realistic than plastic figurines duking it out — Warner Bros. Interactive has announced that a new LEGO Batman title will be emerging from the shadows later this Fall. Officially titled LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, the new game will take friends and foes of the Justice League and pit them against the maniacal villain Brainiac.

According to the official press release, Brainiac has harnessed the immense power of the mythical Latern Rings in an effort to shrink cities and add them to his collection. While we'd agree that they are definitely more legal hobbies out there, it's hard to make a case against the baddie when the appeal of the space-bound bat suit that's featured prominently in the trailer is so distracting. Plus the trademark LEGO humor makes itself immediately apparent and sets the tone for what should be an enjoyable romp through the DC Universe.

There will be over 150 playable heroes and villains featured in LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, so there won't be any shortage of characters to unlock and missions to complete. Players will also be traversing through multiple cities and locations (such as space) in a bid to end the tyranny of Brainiac, so aside from having the fate of humanity resting on your shoulders it should be a fun affair. LEGO big figures, which initially made their debut in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, will also be appearing in the new game — with Killer Croc and Solomon Grundy the first two confirmed to feature a much more sizeable frame.

More details on LEGO Batman 3 are sure to be at the forefront of Warner Bros. Interactive's schedule during E3 2014, so stay tuned to Game Rant for more details on what to expect from Batman's latest brick-based, space-centric adventure.
