One of the darkest entries in The Legend of Zelda series has to be Twilight Princess. It was a grand return after some fans were not pleased with what The Wind Waker had to offer. The franchise went from a cartoonish experience to a more mature one.

But as mature as this game can be, it’s also filled with a lot of classic weird stuff as well. It might just have the scariest children in a video game ever. Period. There is plenty to make fun of in meme form. It's what the medium excels, at so let's see what jokes are in store for old Link.

10 Top Man Be Gone

First of all, yes, the image of Link is from Hyrule Warriors. That said, the Spinner item is from Twilight Princess. As to the other end of this meme’s joke, Top Man is a boss from Mega Man 3. Once defeated, Mega Man will acquire the Top Spinner. He can’t ride it, but that’s close enough to make this joke work.

9 The Big Reveal

The part in Twilight Princess when Midna reveals her true form was one of the most surprising events in any Zelda title. It could be likened to Link getting older in Ocarina of Time, although that was heavily advertised. Anyway, having Jim Carrey lose his marbles in The Mask was a nice pairing for this meme. There are no words to be said here because the expression is loud and clear.

2006 was seemingly the year of the wolf in video games. Okami launched in April of that year in Japan, with it releasing that following September in the west.

No matter its release date, Okami still beat out Twilight Princess’ Wii debut in November. There are no ifs, ands, or buts about it — Amaterasu is a god and Link is not. Therefore, Amaterasu is cooler. End of story.

7 GameCube VS Wii

Speaking of dates, even though this game released on both the Wii and GameCube, the latter of the two console players had to wait almost an entire month to play it. The Wii version came out on November 19 while the GameCube version was a December 11 release. For those that waited, they know that they got to experience the better version. That’s what this meme is referencing.

6 Twilight Prince

With a name like Twilight Princess, it’s hard not to make a Twilight joke here. This meme could be in reference to either one of these two characters disappointed by the fact that the other doesn’t sparkle like the vampires in the book series. Of the two Link, is the pretty boy so it’s funnier to imagine Zelda saying it. There must be some magic in the kingdom of Hyrule to make this dream a reality for her.

5 Tim Burton’s The Legend Of Zelda

Based off of initial feedback from The Wind Waker, in that some fans were turned off by the cartoonish design, Nintendo knew they had to go dark with the next game. Twilight Princess perhaps went too dark. Not in a mature way, but more of a Tim Burton way. It has the filmmaker's dark, quirky flair written all over it, what with the Ooccoos and goth girl Midna. This meme is spot on.

4 South Park's Damien

The title of this entry, and in the meme, is in reference to the South Park episode “Damien.” In said episode, the son of Satan, the titular Damien, comes up from hell to wreak havoc on the boys. Whenever he uses his magic by chanting this phrase to the skies. Malo definitely has the vibe of a creepy child from the underworld.

3 Don’t Speak

The Hero’s Spirit is a fallen version of Link from Ocarina of Time. The meme funnily points out that in this form, he can talk and yet he couldn’t say anything but “hya” while he was alive. No one wants a repeat of the sassy Link from the '80s cartoon, but he should talk by now. There are plenty of good voice actors out there who could do justice to the role.

2 Wallet Space

Inventory space never really made sense in these games. If Link can carry literally dozens of items, why does he then have a limit on how many Rupees he can carry?

For that matter, they always look as big as the wallets themselves, which means realistically even the biggest version should only hold about twenty pieces.

1 Very Nice

Getting ahold of the bedroom key may be a cheap joke, but Borat likes it. Yes, Borat’s catch phrases are old and perhaps tired now, especially if that one office coworker quotes it ad nauseam like it's 2006. Still, hearing a “very nice” every once in a while may make one perk up and smile. Imagining him as Tingle makes the meme even funnier.
