The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has received plenty of awards since its release, including Game of the Year at DICE just over a month ago. It looks like the game has even more to add to that list, as it was given a few more at GDC.

The game walked away with a total of three awards in total at GDC this year. It received awards for both Best Design and Best Audio at the event. Most importantly, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was also the recipient of the highly coveted Game of the Year award.

One of the big things that sets GDC apart from other awards is that they are voted on by other game developers. While it is always exciting to be recognized and awarded for their work on a game, it must add an extra sense of accomplishment for developers to receive such an honor from their peers in the industry.

The game has not only been a critical success, but also a financial success as well. It, along with two other Switch titles, were the top 3 best selling games of 2017 on Amazon. The other two games that topped that list were Super Mario Odyssey and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

With titles like the Zelda and Mario games, it's not hard to see why the Switch has seen so much success since it was released last year. Of course, it hasn't just been those two series that have helped propel the console. Other exclusives such as Splatoon 2, for instance, have also helped get the system to where it is today.  The recently announced Super Smash Bros title for the Switch should help the system keep its momentum, as well.

Nintendo's hard work on not only its games for the system, but the console itself, seem to be paying off, too. It was recently revealed by an industry analyst that the Switch had set a record for the largest install base within its first year of availability. Without a doubt, such a feat is a major accomplishment that should be applauded.
