When Nintendo presented the first trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 at E3 2019, many fans were surprised to see it. Nintendo has not given much more information on the game itself since that initial trailer. Speculation since then has been rampant on what the next Zelda has in store for players.

Many wonder what the story will be like in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 this time around with Calamity Ganon having been defeated. Where Link and Zelda go from here may have to do with the Sheikah Tribe.

The Sheikah made their first appearance in Zelda: Ocarina of Time back in 1998. They served as the protectors of the goddess Hylia's descendants, which are the Royal Family of Hyrule. The Sheikah were also featured in Twilight PrincessSkyward Sword, and Breath of the Wild. Their role has remained fairly unchanged throughout the years.

They have also always had an air of mystery to them, fitting of a group sometimes referred to as the "Shadow Folk." The Sheikah operate in a highly secretive way, even using odd and shadowy magic when necessary to conceal themselves. In Breath of the Wild, though, they are a technologically advanced race responsible for saving Hyrule on many occasions.

The first of which was the Great Calamity that had taken place 10,000 years prior to the beginning of Breath of the Wild. They aided the people of Hyrule with their advanced technology. However, the Sheikah's tech and weaponry were soon deemed a threat to Hyrule's safety. With that, they were forced to leave Hyrule and scattered themselves across the land. Some renounced their ways so that they could live peacefully. Other Sheikah did not and instead decided to align with Calamity Ganon. They became known as the Yiga Clan, a group subservient to dark forces and bent on killing Link.

It is possible that the story of this game will dive deeper into the Sheikah's past, revealing more about them and their society. The story could end up elaborating more on the role they played during struggles like the Great Calamity and others. Perhaps elements of their past will play a role in reclaiming their technologies (like the Guardians and such) from the influence of Calamity Ganon. It is possible, after all, as the Divine Beasts (creations of the Sheikah) were reclaimed thanks to the efforts of Link and his fellow Champions.

Another possibility is the return of the Yiga Clan or maybe even the introduction of a different disenfranchised off-shoot of the Sheikah. This could lead to there being a few different villains this time around in the sequel. It is not too far-fetched to think that there could be more hostile Sheikah as a result of the exile.

One last possibility is that the remnant members of the Sheikah Tribe help Link and Zelda to construct a new weapon or device to seal Ganon one last time. Link and Zelda are going to need all the help they can get as Ganon may be returning in a new form. The Divine Beasts were designed to weaken and inhibit Calamity Ganon's power. It may be time for a creation that can finally seal Ganon off once and for all.

With speculation abound, many rumors are spreading online about game play and story content. The only thing that is certain is that fans are quite excited to see what Breath of the Wild 2 brings to the table.
