The Legend of Zelda is one of those classic franchises that seems to have stood the test of time, and it's easily still one of the most popular and instantly recognizable games ever released. As many gamers play through or reflect on the latest game in the series, Skyward Sword, there are rumors hitting the internet that Nintendo is already hard at work on two Zelda titles for simultaneous release on the Nintendo 3DS.

The games are allegedly called The Legend of Zelda: Fire Prophecy and The Legend of Zelda: Ice Prophecy. The image of the two logos for the rumored 3DS games originally popped up on 4Chan, and while that's not necessarily the most stable source for news, it has harboured legitimate gaming news in the past. Still, we aren't all that convinced with the legitimacy of the image, but we figured it was definitely worth mentioning.

Presumably, if these titles are real, both of these games would be similar to the Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages games that were released on the Game Boy Color back in 2001. Whether or not they would be developed by Capcom is certainly debatable, but it certainly seems like a logical company to outsource to if Nintendo has already spread out its resources on other projects for the 3DS and Wii U.

Nintendo has confirmed that the next Zelda game(s) on the 3DS will be original, so while the accuracy of this rumor can easily be called into question, the thought of two versions is an interesting one to say the least. Dual releases seem to work very well for the Pokemon series, and since Zelda has taken a similar route in the past it may very well happen again on the 3DS.

[UPDATE]

To absolutely nobody's surprise, it seems that these logos are fake. According to The Legend of Zelda fan site,  ZeldaDungeon.net, a "freelance game translator" by the name of GlitterBerri has swooped in and pointed out a major flaw in the grammar of the actual Japanese writing in the logos.

The problems with the titles are…

-Using を instead of の, which renders it completely nonsensical

-Writing “fire” in kanji and “ice” in katakana makes the titles inconsistent. They should either write both in katakana or both in kanji.

So there we have it, these logos are definitely fake. Still, we can't help but wonder just what Nintendo has up their sleeves, and this rumor has gotten us thinking about the possibility of another pair of games in the series similar to Ages and Seasons

[Thanks for the update, GameCollector44]

The Legend of Zelda: Fire Prophecy and Ice Prophecy sound promising to us if they are real, but what do you think? How would you feel about two different versions of one Zelda game? Let us know in the comments below.
