Rupees can be hard to come by in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, particularly during the early stages of the game. Sure, players can sell items or complete side quests to top up their balance, but saving up enough to purchase some of the game's more expensive items is going to take an awfully long time this way. Thankfully, there is a much faster method for farming Rupees.

By exploiting a glitch, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom players can duplicate any item that can be attached to an arrow with just a few button clicks. The process for doing so is incredibly simple and takes just a couple of seconds, allowing players to create hundreds of copies per hour, and, in turn, an endless supply of rupees.

Updated July 6, 2023, by Tom Bowen: For months now, Nintendo has been hard at work trying to patch out all of the best TotK item duplication glitches, but this is a battle that the Japanese giant seems destined to lose. As soon as one item dupe glitch is removed from the game another one is discovered, which bodes well for those who accidentally updated to version 1.2.0 of the game. Though they have their limitations, the latest TotK glitches are arguably some of the best to date, allowing players to duplicate items quickly and easily and earn Rupees at an alarming rate.

How to Duplicate Items in Version 1.2.0 of Tears of the Kingdom (Throw Method)

Duplicating items in version 1.2.0 of Tears of the Kingdom is relatively straightforward, though the process is far from a fast one. It also has a few limitations, the main one being that this glitch can only be used if a player only has one of the item that they wish to dupe. They'll also only be able to duplicate the item twenty times due to the game's asset limit, though there are ways to get around this using Zonai Device dispensers. For most situations though, 20 should be fine and can be achieved by following the steps below.

  1. Unequip Link's bow and then find a ledge that he's able to walk off.
  2. Hold the R button and then press up on the D-pad to select an item to throw.
  3. Select the item that's to be duplicated. This should be an item that Link only has one of in his inventory.
  4. Walk off the ledge while still holding R and then press and hold up on the D-pad before Link hits the ground.
  5. Press the X button to drop the item and then release the R button to throw it, resulting in two of the item being on the ground.
  6. Pick up one of these items, being sure to leave the other where it lands. It doesn't matter which one players pick up.
  7. Repeat until there are 21 items on the ground (or the desired amount, if it is lower than 21), then pick up all of the duplicated items.

Some items will break when thrown at the ground. To get around this, players can perform the glitch near a shallow pool of water. The structure that they walk off can be made using Autobuild if needed, so this TotK item duplication glitch can be carried out just about anywhere.

How to Get Infinite Rupees in Version 1.2.0 of Tears of the Kingdom (Horse Drop Method)

In addition to a new item duplication glitch, version 1.2.0 of Tears of the Kingdom also has one of the best infinite Rupee glitches to date. Granted, it requires quite a bit of setup, but once players have completed the necessary steps, they'll be able to get to 999,999 Rupees incredibly quickly and with relative ease, particularly if they already have a decent stock of the item that they choose to sell. This works great for those who still have items left over from the previous item duplication glitches, as the more of the item they have, the quicker they'll be able to make money using the steps below.

  1. Unequip Link's bow and then position a horse directly beneath a ledge.
  2. Position Link at the top of the ledge above the horse.
  3. Hold the R button and then press Up on the D-Pad.
  4. Select an item and release Up while continuing to hold R. It doesn't matter what this item is.
  5. Step off the ledge, then quickly hit the + button before Link lands on the horse.
  6. Hold five of the item that's to be sold. Ideally, this will be an item with a high sell value like diamonds.
  7. Press the - button and then navigate to the Adventure Log.
  8. View any memory. It's fine to skip the memory after it starts playing.
  9. Press the + button again and hold another five of the item that's to be sold.
  10. Press the B button. If done correctly, Link will be on the horse and one of the held items will fall to the ground next to him.
  11. Ride the horse over to any merchant and target them by holding the ZL button.
  12. Hold the R button, press Up on the D-Pad, and select an item. It doesn't matter what this item is.
  13. While still holding ZL and R, release Up and then press A to talk to the merchant.
  14. Navigate to the sell screen and find the item that's to be sold. If all of the steps were carried out correctly, the icon for this item should have a blue background.
  15. If the background is blue, sell all of Link's stock of the item, then press B to return to the initial dialog option. However, it's important not to end the dialog completely.
  16. Repeatedly sell all of the item that was held earlier until the desired amount of Rupees have been obtained.

All of the glitches and item duplication methods below this box will no longer work on the latest version of Tears of the Kingdom. However, those who have not updated their game to the latest version will still be able to use them.

How to Duplicate Items in Tears of the Kingdom (Infinite Money) - Icy Meat Method

Those looking to duplicate specific items should scroll down a little to the multishot bow gravity method. However, anyone who's just looking to get rich quickly will probably be better off with the icy meat method. This is because it is considerably faster, can be performed in any extreme cold weather location, and, perhaps most importantly, does not require players to get their hands on a multishot bow. In fact, assuming they've already unlocked Autobuild, all players will need to get started is two pieces of Gourmet Meat, any two disposable weapons or shields, and a little bit of Zonaite. Assuming they have all of those things, players can follow the instructions below.

  1. Take out two pieces of Gourmet Meat and place them on the ground.
  2. Use Link's Fuse ability to attach each piece of meat to one of Link's shields or weapons.
  3. Drop the two items that have the Gourmet Meat fused to them and then use Ultrahand to attach these two items together.
  4. Move away from the fused item and then use Autobuild to recreate the last fused item for 6 Zonaite.
  5. Attach the newly created meat swords to the existing ones and then repeat this process until there are around 20 meat swords all fused together.
  6. Head into the Autobuild menu and then favorite the most recent meat sword by pressing the Y button.
  7. Fast travel to the Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower and then head right to the Spring of Wisdom.
  8. If there is already extreme cold weather (indicated by a light fog blowing across the ground), players are ready to perform the glitch. If not, they should repeatedly sit by the nearby fire until the weather gets colder.
  9. Open up the Autobuild menu and select the meat sword contraption from the favorites menu. Players don't actually need to build it though. Instead, they'll simply need to wait for two or three seconds, after which, a bunch of Icy Gourmet Meat will fall to the ground.
  10. Cancel out of Autobuild, pick up the Icy Gourmet Meat, and then repeat step 9 as many times as needed.
  11. Sell the Icy Gourmet Meat to any vendor for 40 Rupees a piece. Players will find it in the Cooking section of the menu rather than Materials.

Although this TotK item duplication glitch requires a fair amount of setup, once players have added the mega meat sword contraption to their Autobuild favorites, they'll be able to return to any extreme cold weather location and perform the glitch whenever they like.

How to Duplicate Items in Tears of the Kingdom (Infinite Money) - Multishot Bow Gravity Method

z-totk-new-item-dupe-glitch-lightroot

For the latest TotK item duplication method, all players will need is a multishot bow, a Zonai device that will allow them to travel straight up, and the item(s) that they want to duplicate. They can upgrade the bow so that it fires five shots by feeding it to a Rock Octorok if they like, but there's really no need, as although doing so would technically allow them to dupe four items at a time instead of two, the time savings would be minimal.

z-totk-new-item-dupe-glitch-up-spot-steps

To get started, players will need to head to an area called Tobio's Hollow Chasm. They may have unlocked this area already by completing the Secret of the Ruins side quest, in which case, they can simply head straight there. If not, they should make their way to the Muokuij Lightroot (0867, -2275, -05556) and then head north for a few seconds to the set of stairs that sits between the Lightroot and the nearby Construct Factory. If they then stand in the space between the stairs facing north and the ones facing east and head straight up, they'll soon arrive in the Tobio's Hollow Chasm.

z-totk-new-item-dupe-glitch-chasm

Once they reach the top of the chasm, players should look east for a stalactite hanging down from the ceiling and then jump off their Zonai device and glide toward it. This will bring them to a steep slope, which they'll need to run up for just a little while. They should stop when they come to the coordinates 1000, -2258, 0167, as this is the spot where they need to perform the glitch. They'll know when they're in the right place, as the atmosphere will suddenly become a lot more foggy and they'll see another stalactite hanging down ahead of them.

Now, to perform the glitch, they should equip their multishot bow and attach the item that they want to dupe to an arrow. If they fire it up toward the stalactite, they'll see that the arrows simply float in the air. As players approach the items, though, they'll fall limply down to the ground, allowing players to pick up three (or five, if they upgraded their multishot bow) of the item that they fused to the arrow despite only one of them having been taken from their inventory.

z-totk-new-item-dupe-glitch-performing-multi-shot

Players can fire off multiple arrows at a time, meaning they don't need to go and pick up their duped items after every shot. They should keep in mind that items will start disappearing once there are more than twenty, though, so will want to limit themselves to seven shots per cycle (or five with a five-shot multishot bow). They should also try and space out their shots a little, as it is possible to hit the floating duped items and destroy them by mistake. Other than that, all players have to worry about is their multishot bow's durability, though if they're familiar with TotK's weapon duplication glitches, this shouldn't be too much of an issue.

How to Duplicate Items in Tears of the Kingdom (Infinite Money) - Shield Hop Method

The shield hop item duplication glitch was shared on Reddit by a user named heeissenberg and allows players to dupe up to five of any holdable item in just a matter of seconds. In order to pull it off, players will simply need a shield and the item that they want to dupe. Players should use the unbreakable Hylian Shield if they have it, as performing this glitch will damage the player's equipped shield and eventually lead to it breaking. It's definitely worth it though, as this is by far the best item duplication glitch in Tears of the Kingdom, both in terms of how quickly it can be pulled off and how simple the process for doing so is.

  1. Press X, A, and ZL simultaneously to perform a shield hop.
  2. Press + to pause the game while Link is still in the air and then navigate to the Materials menu.
  3. Find the item that's to be duplicated and choose the "Hold" option. Players can dupe up to five items at a time.
  4. Press the B and Y buttons simultaneously to exit the menu.
  5. Pick up the pile of duped items from the ground.

If players don't have the Hylian Shield, they should be sure to equip their worst shield while performing this glitch. Players can decrease the amount of damage done to the shield by performing the glitch in shallow pools of water or in sandy or snowy areas.

How to Duplicate Items in Tears of the Kingdom (Infinite Money) - Glide Method

Discovered by a Reddit user known as USBdongle6726, the latest TotK item duplication glitch allows players to duplicate items in a matter of seconds. All they'll need is the item that they want to duplicate, Link's Paraglider, and a spot high up enough to glide from. Assuming they have all of these things, players will simply need to follow the steps below:

  1. Make sure that the item that will be duplicated is in the last slot of the Materials menu. If it isn't, players should drop it and then pick it back up again.
  2. Jump from a ledge and pull out Link's Paraglider by pressing the X button.
  3. Pause the game by pressing the + button and then navigate to the Materials menu.
  4. Select an item that Link only has one of and then choose the "Hold" option.
  5. Scroll to the item that will be duplicated and select the "Hold" option. Ideally, players should have four of this item to hold, but the glitch will still work with just one.
  6. Quickly unpause and then repause the game by pressing the + button twice in quick succession.
  7. Repeat this process three more times before landing.
  8. Pick up all of the items from the large pile on the ground and then repeat the item dupe glitch as necessary.

Players should avoid dropping breakable items or ones that explode upon impact when performing this TotK item dupe glitch. As there is an asset limit in Tears of the Kingdom (around 21 items), it's also best not to perform the item dupe glitch more than four times in one single glide, as this could lead to some items disappearing.

How to Duplicate Items in Tears of the Kingdom (Infinite Money) - Bow Drop Method

zelda-tears-of-the-kingdom-item-duplication-glitch-infinite-money-success-failure

In order to duplicate items, players will need four things: two bows, one arrow, and an item that can be fused to an arrow. This last item is the one that will be copied by performing the Tears of the Kingdom item duplication glitch. Assuming they have all of these things, players will simply need to follow the steps below:

  1. Tap the ZR button to pull out Link's bow
  2. Hold up on the D-Pad and then use the right analog stick to select the item that will be duplicated
  3. Press the + button to pause the game and then navigate to the Bows and Arrows sub-menu
  4. Drop the currently equipped bow
  5. Equip another bow
  6. Quickly press the + button twice to unpause and then repause the game
  7. Drop the currently equipped bow
  8. Unpause the game and pick up the two bows

If done successfully, picking up the two bows will result in players gaining an extra copy of the item that they fused to the arrow. They'll know if the glitch worked, as the two bows will fall directly on top of each other rather than side by side. If it doesn't work, it's likely because players didn't unpause and then repause the game fast enough. With a little bit of practice, though, players should be able to get the timings down and be able to successfully replicate the glitch in about three or four seconds, allowing them to duplicate an item more than 100 times every ten minutes or so.

For some reason, both the altitude and the incline of the spot where players attempt to perform the glitch can have an impact on whether or not it will work. With this in mind, players may want to try going to a new location if they're having trouble cloning their items; preferably somewhere where the ground is flat.

What Are the Best Items to Duplicate?

zelda-tears-of-the-kingdom-item-duplication-glitch-infinite-money-selling-sapphires

When it comes to getting infinite money in Tears of the Kingdom, the best items to duplicate are the ones with the highest value, so things like Diamonds and other rare gemstones are a good place to start. Players can also use this glitch to duplicate Zonaite, which can be very useful for those hoping to upgrade their Energy Cells, or beast materials, which should come in handy for anyone who plans on having the Great Fairies upgrade some of Link's armor. It's even possible to duplicate Zonai devices stored in capsules, which can make map traversal considerably easier.

Although it is arguably the worst of the aforementioned TotK item duplication glitches, the Bow Drop method can still be useful, particularly when it comes to duplicating items that break when they're dropped or Zonai device capsules.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available for the Nintendo Switch.
