Nintendo celebrates the recent announcement of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild by releasing some free themed Zelda avatar items for Miitomo users!

Nintendo may not have held an E3 2016 Press Conference in the traditional sense, but that doesn't mean the company didn't have some large announcements lined up. Today, Nintendo has officially revealed the next Legend of Zelda title, which has assumed the moniker of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

To celebrate the occasion, Nintendo has made three Legend of Zelda avatar items available on the Miitomo social network. Any user who logs in between June 14 to July 14 after 3PM PT today will be able to access the items, which come in the form of a Link hair wig, his classic green tunic, and a retro 8-bit Link t-shirt. The Big N stated a few days ago that there would also be a few more Zelda items that players will be able to win or purchase, so we assume a new Miitomo Drop theme will go live later today.

The Legend of Zelda Avatar Items

While Breath of the Wild was confirmed to have voice acting earlier today, users have always been free to chat things up in Miitomo for as long as they want. Nintendo's social media platform launched a few months ago to great fanfare, though excitement about the free question-and-answer game seems to have slowed down post-launch. The game encourages users to interact with their friends, answering questions and looking at their friend's responses to the same questions in order to find out more about them.

This won't be the first time the Nintendo-made app has played host to themed Nintendo content. Miitomo users who played the application during its first few days had the option of snagging a stylish Mario hat, and a retro NES-themed sweater quietly appeared in the game's store a month or so later. Each article of clothing can either be digitally purchased with in-game currency, or won while it appears in one of the themed Miitomo Drop minigames.

Of course, the game offers users a chance to stock up on the in-game currency with a quick microtransaction, but it's good to know that everything in the game is attainable through simply playing the game - Miitomo doesn't lock away any content behind a paywall. It's one of the reasons why we expected to see quite a few more Link tunics floating around the application in the next few days.

Are you still playing Miitomo at all, Ranters?

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is scheduled to release on both the Wii U and Nintendo NX sometime in 2017. The themed Miitomo items should become available at 3PM PT today.
