Talented modder SuperLouis64 has created a Ring Fit Adventure mod guaranteed to further immerse players looking for a more realistic experience while playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, one that will no doubt leave many out of breath. Having previously modded other games, SuperLouis64 has turned his attention to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, adapting Ring Fit Adventure's controls in order to control Link in-game.

Bouncing atop an exercise trampoline, SuperLouis64 explained the process, sharing how the Ring Fit mod locks the Joy-Con's Joystick in place until the player starts to jog or run, at which point Link begins to move across Breath of the Wild's Hyrule. In order to access the menu screen, players will need to squat, something the modder jokes he'll never get used to.

Combat can be controlled via the Ring-Con's Motion controls, a process he admittedly referred to as "weird" as he swings the highly-sought-after Ring Fit Adventure in real life as Link wields his weapon. However, the mod doesn't actually need the Ring-Con to work, as he demonstrated by jogging on the trampoline whilst swinging a Joy-Con as Link dispatched another foe on-screen. He promised how climbing towers in the game is now "actual work" before joking about how his legs hate it.

Explaining on Reddit why he decided to turn his modding skills to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, SuperLouis64 revealed how he was interested to see what it would be like to take the Ring Fit Adventure controls and apply them to other games. Instead of waiting for Nintendo to potentially do it, he decided to simply make a version of it himself.

Detailing the process, he revealed how he used an input converter to grab the output of his Nintendo Joy-Cons. After some preliminary testing, he was able to discover the values the Joy-Cons accelerometers put out when he was jogging and subsequently based his programming on that information. Thankfully, he clearly wasn't testing with any Joy-Cons that suffered from drift issues. He noted how once he was able to get over that first hurdle, the rest of the programming process "wasn't too hard," including figuring out the values for the Joy-Con when it was placed horizontally. With that figured out, he decided it would be appropriate for a squat, hence the need to perform a squat to open up the menu.

Furthermore, SuperLouis64 highlighted that the mod was running on the Nintendo Switch itself, not an emulator. The mod is capable of working on "all consoles/PC and games that accept a game input" and is a reworked version of the mod he used for his Dark Souls video.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available now on the Nintendo Switch.
