Pre-orders open for a pair of pocket watches based off of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, featuring concept art and classic imagery from the game series.

As a critically-acclaimed and long-running series, The Legend of Zelda has seen more than its fair share of merchandise over the decades. Although the next entry to the franchise, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild isn't due until next year, a new piece of memorabilia is now available for pre-order.

As revealed by NCSX, pre-orders are now being accepted for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild pocket watches manufactured by Taito. Two versions of the watches will be offered, with both featuring the Hyrule crest on the front and the Triforce on the back. The faces of the two watches differ, with one featuring a blue-tinted close-up of Link aiming his bow, while the other is black and gold, featuring classic symbols from the Zelda series.

The watches aren't due to release until late in April 2017, which means they should arrive prior to the game, if the leaked release date for Breath of the Wild turns out to be true. Fans with tight budgets should be pleased to learn that the watches are available for a mere $20.90. Although the watches have been designed to look as though they're made out of a polished metal, they're actually manufactured out of PVC, which presumably helped to keep costs down.

Although the game's release is rapidly approaching, most of the footage shown so far has to do with Breath of the Wild's open world, rather than its story. As such, it's unclear whether these pocket watches are based upon or take inspiration from an item in the actual game. The Legend of Zelda series has been host to a wide variety of important key items in the past, however, so it is a possibility. In addition, released footage previously revealed that Breath of the Wild will include the return of the Temple of Time, and the known story thus far involves Link slumbering for a century, so perhaps Taito was simply inspired by the theme of the game.

In any case, chances are fans of the series are probably pleased to see a nice piece of merchandise that doesn't cost a fortune. Video game merchandise can be extraordinarily expensive, with items like the Pip-Boy Edition of Fallout 4 starting out at hundreds of dollars and eventually being resold for thousands on eBay. While the Breath of the Wild pocket watches are relatively simplistic pieces of merchandise, chances are it will make many gamers happy to add them to their collections.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is set to release in 2017 for the Wii U and Nintendo Switch.
