Two talented Zelda modders have come up with a Halloween-themed DLC for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The latest installment in the popular Zelda franchise debuted on the Nintendo Switch right when it launched in 2017. Since then, gamers and modders alike have found creative ways to expand upon it, whether its modding it or even speedrunning the game. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild certainly hasn't lost its popularity years later as gamers eagerly anticipate the sequel, Tears of the Kingdom, due to release next year.

When The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild first debuted, the first real open-world Zelda game gave players a chance to do whatever they pleased in no particular order. If a player wanted to go straight to Hyrule Castle from the start, gamers were welcome to do so. Unfortunately, after beating the game, there wasn't much to do. Players hungry for more content had to purchase the Breath of the Wild: Expansion Pass. Gamers could also pass the time in the prequel and spin-off to this title Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. Thankfully with the number of talented modders out there, players now have options to enjoy what they already own.

YouTuber and Zelda modder Waikuteru worked with fellow modder Sockpoppet to create a new fan-made Breath of the Wild spooky Halloween DLC titled "The Halloween Haunt." Gamers are in for a unique creepy adventure. Waikuteru was also behind another popular mod known as "Breath of the Wild: Second Wind." This new DLC includes a slew of spooky content, such as a new story, armor, weapons, NPCs, and a creepy new boss known as The Phantom Rider. Thankfully there are other cool mods out there such as an unofficial Breath of the Wild Multiplayer Mod created by another talented fan.

The premise of "The Halloween Haunt" tasks Link with saving Koroks, who have been mysteriously cursed. Players must venture into The Lost Woods to finally find the only cure for the curse, pumpkins ironically. Cooking is the answer to breaking the spell, and a special stew must be brewed to save the Koroks. Link must also battle the same creature that cursed the poor Koroks in the first place, who happens to guard the critical ingredient. Another unique mod worth mentioning was one that restored Hyrule Castle to its glory utilizing assets from Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.

While Tears of the Kingdom is a while away from being released, it's nice to see fans like Waikuteru going the extra mile to include fun seasonal mods. Maybe fans will see a Holiday-themed mod come to life next month.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available now on Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
