Many RPG players felt a burst of excitement this morning when they saw that PlayStation’s cult classic The Legend of Dragoon was trending on Twitter. Despite there being a fan-made remake of the The Legend of Dragoon, nothing completely replaces the real thing. Unfortunately, it looks like fans shouldn’t get excited about a remake just yet.

Over time, The Legend of Dragoon has become a mythical game for many players. With the mechanics of good Final Fantasy combat mixed with the best parts of being a Power Ranger, The Legend of Dragoon quickly found a home in many fans’ hearts. The game itself has a simple premise: Warriors take on the souls of dragons to use wings and magic in battle. There is even an active combat system that requires players to time button presses in order to keep attack combos going, much to the frustration of many young gamers. Tons of great character development, the unique dragoon system, and a large variety of weapons and items make it easy to see why The Legend of Dragoon is still relevant 20 years later.

It appears that The Legend of Dragoon is only trending on Twitter because of a Pick 3 poll, where it was a top contender for favorite JRPGs. While many people took to Twitter to participate in the friendly discussion, some fans were upset that they got their hopes up for nothing. The game has been long overdue for a remaster or remake, especially after a petition to remake The Legend of Dragoon got thousands of signatures last year during the game’s 20th anniversary.

While there have been many teases by Bluepoint Games—and plenty of fan speculation—that a The Legend of Dragoon remake might be in the works, the recent reveal of the Demon’s Souls remake shows players exactly what the studio has been working on. It could be the case that Bluepoint Games has been working on both titles at the same time, but that is just wishful thinking until anything concrete is revealed.

If nothing else, this trending excitement just shows game developers that a The Legend of Dragoon remake, remaster, or even a sequel would still sell pretty well, even 20 years later. It is very exciting to image a time in the near future where gamers can unfurl their dragoon wings once more and fail some button combinations during battle.

The Legend of Dragoon is available now on PlayStation 1.
