Last year, rumors started cropping up that a full-fledged remake of the PS1 JRPG The Legend of Dragoon was in development at Bluepoint Games. Nothing official has been announced, but in the meantime, some fans have taken matters into their own hands, creating a different kind of Legend of Dragoon remake.

Legend of Dragoon fan named Flanvel has been creating a remake of the game using RPG Maker MV. It's really more of a "de-make" in that it uses an older graphical style than what was seen in the PS1 original, but it's still a new way for fans to experience the game nevertheless. A demo of the Legend of Dragoon remake is available to play for those who support Flanvel's Patreon page, though it's unclear just how much the project is still being supported. At the time of this writing, the Patreon page is still active, but it seems as though the Facebook page has been shut down.

Hardcore Legend of Dragoon fans may very well want to check out Flanvel's take on the game, but others are holding out hope for a proper remake from Bluepoint Games. Bluepoint has being teasing a PS5 project for some time, but it's unclear if the studio is teasing a Legend of Dragoon remake, a Demon's Souls remake, or something else entirely.

Those wondering what game Bluepoint Games is working on will likely have to wait for the PS5 reveal event, whenever that may be. Right now, the prevailing theory is that Sony will reveal the PS5 at a special event in February, where it's expected to show off the new console's design as well as highlight some of the games that are in development. Sony has yet to officially confirm that the rumored PS5 February reveal event is even taking place though, so fans should keep their expectations in check.

Meanwhile, those who really want to see The Legend of Dragoon get a remake may want to consider supporting one of the fan petitions. One of the most popular Legend of Dragoon remake petitions is nearing 20,000 signatures, and while it may not actually convince Sony to move forward with the project, it does show that there is at least some interest in seeing the game get remade.

The Legend of Dragoon is available now for the PS1.
