On December 2, 1999, Sony launched The Legend of Dragoon in Japan, a PlayStation-exclusive RPG that earned average reviews but still found a dedicated fanbase and managed to sell over 1 million copies. While The Legend of Dragoon wasn't as well-received as other JRPGs of its time, many fans have held out hope for a sequel or remake that could potentially address some of the criticisms that were aimed at the original release. There have been some rumblings lately that a Legend of Dragoon remake could very well come to fruition, and now a petition has been made to help show Sony that fans want to see the old-school game remade for modern audiences.

The Legend of Dragoon remake petition has already been signed by 6,636 people at the time of this writing, nearing its initial goal of 7,000 signatures. The petition includes a letter addressed to Sony, asking the company to release the game for the upcoming PS5 instead of the PS4, as they fear releasing it on the PS4 this late in the console's lifespan would cause the Legend of Dragoon remake to be overlooked. The petition also has some suggestions of what fans would like to see change in the proposed Legend of Dragoon remake.

The changes requested in the Legend of Dragoon petition include improved script quality, re-balancing combat, improved voice acting, new optional content, and more. Of course, it's safe to say that many would be satisfied with a Legend of Dragoon remake that just offered a graphical upgrade, but a remake that featured better graphics and improved gameplay would likely have a bigger impact.

As far as video game petitions go, The Legend of Dragoon remake has a fairly realistic shot at achieving its goal. In fact, there's some evidence to suggest that a Legend of Dragoon remake may already be in active development. Bluepoint Games seems to be teasing a Legend of Dragoon remake as its next project, which it has been doing since this past August.

The Legend of Dragoon remake teases started this past August, when a Bluepoint Games developer said that they love Legend of Dragoon, and followed it up with, "Perhaps it should be a project?" Bluepoint has since shared cryptic teasers about its next game on social media, though some fans think that the studio is hinting at a Demon's Souls remaster instead of a Legend of Dragoon remake.

Whatever the case may be, Sony has shown a willingness in recent years to pursue remakes of its old-school games, with a MediEvil PS4 remake releasing just this past October. There is clearly some fan demand for a Legend of Dragoon remake, so it will be interesting to see if the project ever comes to fruition.

The Legend of Dragoon is available now for PS1.
